Well, I kinda dug myself into a little hole. Buying and selling cars has lead me to new boundaries in terms of capital. However now I’m not exactly sure where to go next.
As of right now my current car is a Mazdaspeed6 which I’m hoping to sell for $16,000. The Mazda is in excellent mechanical condition(36k miles) and just went in for bodywork. However, I fucking hate Mazda with a passion therefore I will NOT be keeping this car.
So $16,000 is my budget.(Around December/January) Closer to 10k is better so that I have money to put into the car.
The hard part is trying to figure out what to buy.
Few things interest me:
-Aesthetics
-Power(doesn’t have to be fast, I just want passing power)
-Handling
-Comfort
-Versatility
I’ve been relatively interested in a few things.
I liked my 02 dodge ram 2500 diesel, I liked my LS1 firebird, I’ve also like my subarus.
I’ve expressed interest in an 03+ Dodge ram 2500 diesel, EVO’s, STI’s, LSjuans, and I’ve even looked into Buick Grand Nationals.
I’m trying to stay away from the EVO(It’s going to KILL my insurance, I’m 18) and the STI isn’t as bad on insurance but finding one with lower mileage in my budget is ridiculously hard. The STI is also much more familiar to me than the EVO. If I could the right 04 STI I’d consider it. It practically fits everything I like.
I’m trying to stay away from LS1’s and any muscle cars for the pure fact that they are not winter cars. I do a lot more stuff in the winter and having a versatile car that wouldn’t be a sin to drive in the winter is key. GM muscle cars are shit for comfort and quality, that’s for sure. The Buick grand national is my dream car though, it’s one of my top 10 favorite cars. Then again, my LS1 firebird was one of the funnest cars I’ve owned.
As for the Dodge ram I’m not entirely sure If I need a truck like that. I do a lot of work in scrap yards and having a truck is definite bonus for the versatility category. The 03’s are much better quality and aesthetics, however I’m going to pay the price when it comes to mileage. Finding the right dodge with a 6spd under my budget is going to put me at 150k+ miles. No big deal, I’m just not sure If i wanna deal with the typical high mileage worn interior.
I also took a look at the Acura TSX. The car is aesthetically pleasing to me, looks quality and comfortable. It’s also newer and as a bonus actually gets good gas mileage. Considering I’m using the car for 90% commuting, I think the car fits the bill very well. Also, the car has a lot of potential for upgrades. The only down side is… Fail wheel drive.(Better for the winter I suppose)
So as you can see I’m in quite a pickle. Right now I’m seriously considering an STI(If available when I have my funds ready) and the TSX for practicalities sake
If you guys could help me deliberate between the 2(Personal experience), or give me any other insight, it would be much appreciated.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know! I’m open to almost anything.
