Ugh, were to go next?(Car vs car purchase)

Well, I kinda dug myself into a little hole. Buying and selling cars has lead me to new boundaries in terms of capital. However now I’m not exactly sure where to go next.

As of right now my current car is a Mazdaspeed6 which I’m hoping to sell for $16,000. The Mazda is in excellent mechanical condition(36k miles) and just went in for bodywork. However, I fucking hate Mazda with a passion therefore I will NOT be keeping this car.

So $16,000 is my budget.(Around December/January) Closer to 10k is better so that I have money to put into the car.

The hard part is trying to figure out what to buy.

Few things interest me:
-Aesthetics
-Power(doesn’t have to be fast, I just want passing power)
-Handling
-Comfort
-Versatility

I’ve been relatively interested in a few things.

I liked my 02 dodge ram 2500 diesel, I liked my LS1 firebird, I’ve also like my subarus.

I’ve expressed interest in an 03+ Dodge ram 2500 diesel, EVO’s, STI’s, LSjuans, and I’ve even looked into Buick Grand Nationals.

I’m trying to stay away from the EVO(It’s going to KILL my insurance, I’m 18) and the STI isn’t as bad on insurance but finding one with lower mileage in my budget is ridiculously hard. The STI is also much more familiar to me than the EVO. If I could the right 04 STI I’d consider it. It practically fits everything I like.

I’m trying to stay away from LS1’s and any muscle cars for the pure fact that they are not winter cars. I do a lot more stuff in the winter and having a versatile car that wouldn’t be a sin to drive in the winter is key. GM muscle cars are shit for comfort and quality, that’s for sure. The Buick grand national is my dream car though, it’s one of my top 10 favorite cars. Then again, my LS1 firebird was one of the funnest cars I’ve owned.

As for the Dodge ram I’m not entirely sure If I need a truck like that. I do a lot of work in scrap yards and having a truck is definite bonus for the versatility category. The 03’s are much better quality and aesthetics, however I’m going to pay the price when it comes to mileage. Finding the right dodge with a 6spd under my budget is going to put me at 150k+ miles. No big deal, I’m just not sure If i wanna deal with the typical high mileage worn interior.

I also took a look at the Acura TSX. The car is aesthetically pleasing to me, looks quality and comfortable. It’s also newer and as a bonus actually gets good gas mileage. Considering I’m using the car for 90% commuting, I think the car fits the bill very well. Also, the car has a lot of potential for upgrades. The only down side is… Fail wheel drive.(Better for the winter I suppose)

So as you can see I’m in quite a pickle. Right now I’m seriously considering an STI(If available when I have my funds ready) and the TSX for practicalities sake

If you guys could help me deliberate between the 2(Personal experience), or give me any other insight, it would be much appreciated.

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know! I’m open to almost anything.

So some sort of FWD family sedan awd rally car diesel 3/4 ton work truck type of thing?

Sounds like a Subaru Baja is just what the doctor ordered.

Regardless, anything will be better than that godawful smiling POS in your sig.

You’re all over the place on what you want

Your tastes are very varied, there are about a million cars in between. Seems like a TBSS would be a good go-between, with LS2 fun but AWD and ground clearance for the winter, and a hell of a lot more comfortable than an Fbod, but not sure how you feel about them asthetically or whether you give a shit about gas mileage.

choose for yourself

I am sick of ppl making threads where they think they want an sti/evo but want other options.

Never had a problem in winter with any car. Winter tires solves that problem. If you want a muscle car go for it. I drove my 5.0s and GTs throughout winter no problem with winter tires.

Everyone thinks AWD drive solves all your issues, yet I still see enough audis into snow banks. Sure having weight over drive wheels helps gets you going, but the technology for stopping is still the same. Learn to drive if your whining about winter.

that sti in the FS section is right up your alley

find a beat up E46 M3 for around 16, clean it up and sell it for 20?

I have been looking into the TBSS as well. It’s a hot truck. I just can’t get over the fact that an ls2 + awd is gonna be 13mpg. Just finding the right deal at the right time I guess. I suppose since I’m in the baller on a budget status, I can actually take some test drives first.

My tastes are all over the place, because part of me wants a road racing car, the other a drag car, the other a off road capable machine, and last but not least something practical.

If I do end up getting an STI, the gold wheels, the spoiler, and anything remotely boy racer will be gone. I feel too grown up for it already.

I’m not scared to drive a muscle car in the snow either, I drive pickup trucks all the time in the winter. For one, doing donuts in an AWD car is fun as fuck. For 2, no one likes being stuck, and for 3, I am not driving a grand national or f-body on the roads with the salt!!

I like this. Wheres a good place to find one?

I know, and it’s just too bad he is 2 months ahead of me.

For the record, I get 15MPG if I don’t hammer it too much and don’t use the :tspry: :stuck_out_tongue:
The gas mileage is what made them take a beating on resale though so it kind of evens out.

dealer only auction should be really easy to find them, otherwise luck by looking around the forums and usual sites like craigslist and autotrader.

You are out of control with swapping cars lol. How bout that Sti that Ryan is selling for 14?

Haha if it is for sale when I’m ready, I’ll take a look!

So does that mean you sold that 2.5rs you had too?

Yessir. The price was right, plus I owed money to my father because he helped fund my mazdaspeed 6 project. Something had to go.

gotcha, well goodluck with the next one, altho we should all start taking bets on how long your going to keep it haha

Buy mindless’s car and ruin it like you did the crx! but on a serious note buy a sunfire and call it a day.
