I used to be a lead installer at a futureshop audio install bay. I recently moved mack to Toronto, and there were no positions available for me here. I used to have MECP but I don’t think it’s valid any more. I’ve got lots of experience with all sorts of troublesome cars and customers (heh heh) if anyone knows of a performance shop or otherwise that is looking for a trained and skilled installer. please let me know.
Thanks
James
(btw I don’t like doing remote starters, because there are always problems with them, usually the moron owner)
Heh … you didn’t get fired from the one on Dundas did you?
My buddy had a car starter installed at the Future Shop there, and they f*cked it up royally.
They broke his dash in a few places and ripped the headlight switch right out. It’s one of those style ones you have to pull on/push off (95 Dodge)
My buddy went to drive his car the next day, pulled on the headlights and the knob came right off in his hand. The shaft of the knob had a nice bend in it too from where the guy tried to force it back in.
That was when he noticed pieces of his dashboard hidden under his floor mat.
“He won’t notice!”
Anyway … not that I can remember the name of it, but there’s a new monster.ca style site that just started up for TO.
No I was from windsor, we held the best in canada award for 3 months. I don’t screw up (to the point where anyone would ever find out hee hee) no really everyone makes mistakes, mine are never anything more than a blown fuse, or a missing screw. I did have a kid who drilled through the hood of a car tho (moron) he got fired quick (he was seasonal too)
that and I don’t think I would really like to work a futureshop or best buy ever again ( it looks nice but trust me it’s as crooked as it gets)
I was thinking along the lines of something more permanent. but sure why not. What kind of alarm is it ? I usually charge $60 Cdn to install alarms. I give the same lifetime warenty on the installation as futureshop does. and I’ll do a better job.
well, the siren tone, or pater of sounds it makes has nothing to do with the alarm, basically your alarm brain just sends a signal to turn on. whatever noise you want from your siren, means you have to find a siren that has that noise programmed into it. so look into what sirens make what noise, and find the one you like and swap it in. I can program lost remotes to DEI’s but I really don’t like dealing with remotestarter units.
Well the siren I have is like all the others… it has the 6 or 7-tone sequence which it loops. I don’t want it to sequence… I just want one tone type. Apparently the manual says you can ‘go to a dealer to have it reprogrammed’ or something? Thought maybe you could do it for cheaper.
All DEI sirens have the same sequesnce, and unfortunatly, only a DEI direct dealer has the chip or equipment to change it. I’ve never seen it, and this is the first I’ve ever heard of it. I was always under the impression that if you wanted a different sound or something you needed a different or specific siren for that. Any way
spd-dmn check the wires coming out of the siren if there is just a red and
a black you are SOL. But if there are two looped black wires one is for
soft chirp and the other is for the 6 tone sequence… Cut one and see
what happens… If it’s soft chirp hook it back up and cut the other one.
Hey scribbles, I found an interesting alarm on eBay, seems neat, I only want keyless and an alarm, and the remotes are really neat. Pricing seems a little suspect, but hey…I just want something very basic that will work. So, what do you think:
I guess it looks ok, not bad for the price. but be carefull with cheap stuff. it tends not to last or work well for very long.
for door lock, if you don’t already have power locks you’re going to need a few parts. 2 lock actuators, not like trunk ones these are slower. at least 2 relays. and some king chain connectors to connect the actuator to the rod in your door.
most of the time futureshop and best buy will charge $150 per door. above the proce of alarm install. this is a major job. its best to wait till spring for this when the weather is nice. as both doors may need to come off to run wires properly.
I had to take off the drivers door of my mazda to run the wires it was a huge pain. luckily I had central locking so I only needed to put an actuator on the one door.
it’s a pain, but I’ll always beat futureshops price on work, I’ll do a equal or better job. and I give the same lifetime garuntee on the workmanship. if I put it in, and it fails because of they way it’s hoocked up or faulty wiring I fix it. But I don’t do anything if it’s the product that screws up.
Any way. If anyone knows of any local performance shop or audio shop that is looking for a full time or part time installer. please let me know. As much fun as doing stuff on the side is, I’d rather have regular work.
also need the antenna adapter if you want your radio to work.[/quote]
yeah one of those too, I usually just grab it off the shelf everytime I don’t really think about reminding people. Thanks.
Btw. I live in the west end of Etobicoke. I’ll do work at my house cuz I’ve got all y tools and access to my files and all here, but I’d like to wait till it warms up a bit, if that’s ok with everyone.
Still Job less. Like real job kind of thing 9-5’er. I am enjoying a nice and well deserved vacation, but I think its time to get back into the game and make some more dough.
lemme know.
Looking for part time or full time posistions as an audio installer. Perferably at a performance shop or audio specialty shop. I’ve got my own tools, and I don’t need training. (I’m potty trained too lol)
