Id love to SRT-4 swap a Shelby Charger
Best of luck finding a clean one. I’ve been looking for quite some time as well and have either found complete rats or good ones for stupid money. One of those cult cars I want to add to the garage alongside the Shogun #2 whenever Don decides to sell it
Is the shogun the car you had at your place when you welded the bike fork for me? If so that thing was awesome.
I don’t remember, was either the Shogun or Don’s Ultima GTR
The shogun
Ultima GTR( and his now-wrecked Radical SR3)
Definitely the shogun. Thing was so badass and I only saw it rip up the street haha.
There was a lemons team that made a pretty damn good tribute to the Shogun out of a metro:
I have a weird fetish for mid engine hatches. cough clio V6 cough
Not to jump topics on my own post but, might be heading to Springfield to look at an 05 gto anyone on here have one that could give any advice on them?
How the hell do you go from an Omni to a GTO?
Ehh, work for Chrysler but just about every car I own has been a pontiac. Been looking to dump my wrangler
I only got to drive one a couple times, so no comment on ownership, but I loved it. Comfortable, powerful, sounded great. Decent enough visibility looking out. Okay on gas if you don’t drive it like an asshole, which is difficult.
Good choice on the year fuck the 04’s.
Yep… 05/06 for sure. have fun getting traction with the irs and any real power. They are heavier than an f-body, but overall other than the rear setup (which I’m not personally a fan of) fairly solid cars
05/06 with '04 hood is the way to go, because scoops are gay. Handled pretty well. Makes me want to drive a G8 to see what the other aussie GM we ended up getting was like.
Only part of the 04-06 GTO’s I fucking hate is the steering wheels. So cheap feeling and looking. Besides that I Like everything else about them
You do realize that the scoops are actually a heritage thing, playing homage to the original GTOs of the 60s right?
You do realize that the car is a holden monaro, which has little to nothing to do with the original gto’s of the 60’s right? And the scoops are cool on the old cars, but they look stupid on the new ones.
Yes, I am fully aware of the 04-06 GTOs coming from the Holden Monaro originally but the whole reason they put the scoops on them was because the original GTOs had scoops. What the fuck is so hard to understand about this? The new Z/28 doesn’t have shit to do with the original, but if you watch the video with Jay Leno and Al Oppenheiser, who is the chief engineer for Camaro at Chevrolet, he makes a point to say he fought to make the badging correct (Z/28 vs Z28) in order to pay homage to the namesake’s origins. Look at the tail lights on the 2014’s vs the 2010-2013 Camaros- they went back to a style reminiscent of the first gens. I know this is an example of the Camaros vice GTOs/Monaros, but it’s the same principle. Hell, I could keep going and say look at the new C7 Stingray. Switch brands and go to the Ram Power Wagons, the Hemi Chargers, Mach 1 mustangs, etc. None of these vehicles are anywhere close to what the vehicles with the same name were 30-40 years ago. Manufacturers use things like these on cars for a specific reason, and in this case it is to tie the name of the car in with its roots and hopefully draw a sense of familiarity from potential buyers while keeping with the vehicle’s origins.
fuck /KKrant
Unrustle your jimmies. Heritage styling element or not, my point is that I think they look tacky on an otherwise clean and understated looking coupe. The overall styling on the '04 was subtle, not at all shouty, a high performance coupe that you could still manage to fly under the radar with. The dual exhaust was an improvement, but I think it went a step backwards with the facelifted hood. Do they even feed any air to the intake or similar cooling, or are they similarly non-functional like the scoops on some of the classic muscle cars as well (I think the original GTO had the hood scoop in a low pressure area)?
I’m of the opinion that the car would have been more successful if they didn’t call it a GTO. Maybe kept the monaro name. They are great cars, and they shouldn’t have decided to bank on a legendary name from their past to sell them, because as we’ve seen above, doing that has baggage associated with it. In general though, cars don’t need to scream “Look at how fucking racecar I am! Look at my fucking scoops! Look at them!”. Sometimes less is more.
TL;DR, go drive one. If you like it, awesome. I think they are awesome cars regardless of what the marketing department decided to call it.
