Olive oil? What is that for?
It helps with their skin/coat. Good source of Omegas.
- rep put a little olive oil in our dogs food. Keeps the obnoxious shedding under control as well. Started doing it a few years ago after a recommendation of a friend, seemed nuts at the time but it works well.
I throw welactin in with my dogs food. It’s essentially just fish oil. But it keeps her skin/coat in check and seems to help with her joints since she has patellar luxation that acts up every now and again. It’s nice having a friend who works for the company and hooks me up with samples all the time lol.

Canidae… we tried a bunch of other high end brands that worked just fine, but after switching their coats were shiny and soft (and we had two GSD’s so that’s kind of a big deal for them) and even though we left food out all day they never over ate it or had a weight problem. On the pricey side, but I won’t feed a dog anything else now.
Our dog had been eating fast, so we have been giving him his food spread out over the house… Just picked this up the other day, works wonders. Takes him about 10 minutes to eat his cup and a half of food.
^^ We have one of those dog food bowls with the fins in it to slow down their eating, works pretty well… thats pretty bad ass though.
Looks like torture.
+1 for pro plan. Never had issues with my American Bulldog. She’s going on roughly 12 now and she’s healthy as an ox. A lazy bitch too… lol (so she doesn’t get a whole lot of exercise)
My dog is a slow eater. I think she had food issues wherever she came from. She puts a few pieces in her mouth then walks to the living room drops them on the floor and inspects each piece before eating them. Then after a few rounds of that will go back and finish.
My dog does this exact same thing. I am going to try Purina Proplan also going to try the olive oil in the food to see it will help with the shedding. I brush him out every sunday and still have like 2 inches of fucking fur on the couch come tuesday
Our Pit had that problem. Like we did with polly (our lab when she was a pup) we started hanging out with her while she ate, testing her etcc… Petting them giving their tail a quick easy tug just to teach them its alright for someone to be around and that we don’t want to take their food…
Now all the dogs eat together where as before she would grab food and go run away.
When we first got our dog he would eat his entire bowl of food in less than 30sec and if you were even in the same room he would growl and show teeth but hes good now with that broke him of that quick after he snapped at the wife when she tried to grab the water bowl while he was eatting. Now you can practically sit on him and he wont even look at you while eatting.
How much Olive Oil are you putting on the food? We give hmi usually 2-3 cups of food a day. I was thinking like a teaspoon or tablespoon but i dont wanna over do it.
Yea mines shedding more than usual too. I’m just chalking it up to the hot weather. She was romping around in the swamps on my last bike ride to stay cool on thurs and I gave her a bath because she smelt like bigfoots dick. I thought she was going to plug the drain with all the hair that came off.
We give our dogs about A cup and a half a day of food. I usually just drizzle a bit over the top to coat the food okay, i’d say its about 1/4 cup maybe a little less.
From our experience with our dogs best thing to do was to pet them, gently pull their tail and practice taking away food from them as they were eating. If you bring your hand near them they will just lift their heads now… Otherwise they don’t care… They no longer growl or get defensive nor do they horde food or try and chow down in 30 seconds.
We coudl feed Dutchess multiple times a day and she would chow down until she was stuffed, now if she doesnt eat all her food she just leaves it, no longer feels the need to get defensive or eat herself to death. The dogs all have their bowls, they don’t touch eachothers unless its been there all day and they want a snack because they dident eat it all.
Our dog is small so I give him probably a tablespoon or less every other day at best
I’ll start tonight with two table spoons on his food and see how that goes.
Used to feed out lab Purina One and she was getting sick from it. Switched to Blue Buffalo and that was good for a couple years, but she started not eating it. Did some research and it read that Blue Buffalo got bought out by a major corporation and quality suffered.
Now we feed her Fromms, buy it at Heads and Tails on Union St. $50 for 30lbs, but we can fed her less because its a much richer food with no fillers. Less poop to pick up that way too. Well worth the extra money for good food.
Was on chicken noodle soup for the soul and noticed his coat was not in great shape. Switched to blue bison, and the coat got better, plus the dog farts have stopped as well to
I’d like to try the olive oil now too
Going to run to tractor supply next week and grab some taste of the wild
