looking for new job

Free of charge good sir.

There is a PC repair place off transit on N.French that has a sign for $50 virus removal…I should just open my own place.

love it they are really starting to make all of the autodesk programs very similar which is making it easier to learn them all we have 12’ everything right now and after using MEP for only a week or two I have a majority of it down fairly well

revit is not cheap and takes some serious hardware to run…well atleast with the size of the projects we do here. right now im working on a project that is just shy of half million square feet and is 100% real 3d modeling. its awesome software though and saves substainal time in some aspects…oh and the isometric views for my piping riser diagrams/stacks, that shit is awesome for the “wow factor”

ive used probably 10-15 different cad software programs, and as far as the A/E field goes, revit is the way to go. if you can get any kind of experience with it, it will absolutely give you a step ahead of the others when looking for a job

dont worry, if youve only been in it a few weeks, you have way more to learn haha…youll still be learning after using it atleast a year. most of my projects are in '12 right now however one im doing is in '13

That’s cheap as shit.

honestly, do it. open your own place. Then you’ll find out that paying for rent on a space, liability insurance, payroll, unemployment insurance, etc. sucks ass. $50 to remove a virus seems like a lot until you take the cost of doing business into account, then you suddenly realize it costs $300 a day (random number, but not impractical) to keep the doors open before you even start to make any money.

Not if I operate out of my house.

I really have no intention of operating a computer repair business at all. I get enough at work.

Computer repair is a weird thing now a days.

When I worked at computersos sometimes we would have to charge $200-300 to fix a $400-500 computer.

Pick some growing technology field and specialize Networking, Security, and Virtualization are good examples all large fields that are not going anywhere.

Locally 55-90k(4-6) years experience is doable.

If you have the ability to travel you can link up with a lot of national consulting companies and make bank.

Yep security will never go anywhere…at least not in our lifetime. New software/hardware, new exploits. I think we’re still at the starting point of seeing companies starting to take security seriously. Virtualization is huge too, saves money all around. I enjoy helping and educating people about computers. Making procedures more automated and efficient and documenting stuff so that even an infant can figure it out. I’ve had VPs comment on my documentation telling me that “If I could understand it, then you must have done something right”.

Web design is a pain in the ass unless you structure it right. I do “design” for people and businesses looking to quickly get info online for $300 a pop and is stupid easy. The custom layout and stuff is where you get yourself into trouble.

Also, web based systems and applications to simplify peoples day to day tasks and business are also a good market. I have a project backlog of simple web apps that people need and won’t touch anything under 10 billable hours @ $1,500 and that is the cheap pricing.

I am also moving into the telecom solutions which is also easily billable hours at $200/hour+. Find a niche that people need, get your name out there and stuff flows in pretty easily.

If you want to make money in website design…

Grab Concrete CMS build people some basic page and let them goto town with their content I-Evolve does this and makes good money lol

Just bustin balls.

just apply to ingram evern if it is at part time at first the place really isnt that bad

If I wasn’t doing computer stuff and was starting out Geico + night school wouldn’t be horrible

My new job has a pension program… I hope never to leave that company and never have to look for a job again.

Yeah it’s pretty cool here. I’ve been here 6 months and won the ProAV team MVP for Q3. Moral of the story is, if you’re not an idiot you’ll do well here.

subtle brag

Just last night I told a recruiter I wasn’t interested in a $75k+ job because it’s at a tiny little subsidiary with no room to advance more than one step without relocating.
