i know amoung all the devistation to the people down there this should be an after thought but i wondered how many people that evacuated took their performance cars, muscle cars, etc etc with them. I wonder how many rare collectibles were lost ( hemi cuda, etc)
What would you take with you?
I’d have trouble deciding which car to take and what to pack in it. i guess family pictures, special momentoes and stuff that you can’t buy at the store again.
I’d throw my two best PCs, TV, Xbox, comicbook collection, and car magazines in the Reno, pick up a case of Lindemann’s Frambois, and keep on tryin’ til I reach a higher ground.
well see i could leave my x-box and tv and shit, whats the use of taking it if you got no home to plug it in at. but yeah comics, baseball cards, shit like that you can’t go get at walmart. I think i’d have to try to tow a car with one, maybe have my dad tow the road runner with the GS and drive my hurst pulling his vette and leave the S.S. monte carlo to float away.
I’d take my dogs, maybe try to get a car out of there. but with the time you have to react, it isnt possible. you can’t THINK of things to take because when push comes to shove you need to think about your own personal safety along with your family’s…
I would make sure everyone was out safely then MAYBE go back and try to get some things id like to keep safe
One of my good friends lives in Pass Christian, right on the water where it took a direct hit. She has an old Bronco, and the Z. She took the Z, and her friend who was visiting. She called me to tell me she was in FL and OK…
She is going on a cruise on Th this week, so this is what she took:
PDA
external hard drive back up
all jewelery
all guns
suitcase for cruise.
that is all she cared to take…
She says she hopes that her house is gone, nothing left, get a check for ins. and get the heck out of dodge…
to some people, their health and their family means more to them than a car, yeah you worked on it, but human life is so fragile, you never know what will happen to you in every day life, cars will come and go…you can always work on them again if you lose one, but if you lose a family member, you can never get them back
I have a fire safe with all of my important stuff in there (Backup dvd’s of all my pictures of the kids, financial paperwork, stuff like that). I would grab the safe, the kids and get out. The rest of the stuff can be bought again.
well i mean if you are evacuating and your family is gettin in the car, do you take the ford taurus or do you take the 69 camaro in the garage. Of course you take care of all the other shit first but for car people, thats shit is on your mind whether you want it to be or not. it doesn’t make you heartless to think about your car that you could have thousands into. i mean besides custom and sound you aren’t gonna be able to pick up your house and move it so you might as well sacrifice the daily driver for the sunday cruiser that you already have a good bit of finances into. Its actaully smart to think about it cause you will most likely get F-ed over on a custom car but get pretty much a decent price for your daily driver.
Right, I completely understand where you are coming from and why you say that. But if you are giving a short amount of time to leave (i.e. 45 mins) you dont really have that much time to pack up as much as you can, and decide what car you are taking. I see your points clearly, and I understand, but you also have to look on the other side to the average joe who works and has a 69 Camaro. the average joe would pick the taurus to leave in because he cares more about his family.
