LS1 Auto Guys ..maybe stall time

So i came across a pretty good deal, I can get a TCI 4L60E Competition Torque Converter, 3800 Stall Speed for $450. Question is what else would I need or what else should i do to prepare my car. Also is this a good stall? I know the price is almost 50% precent off but I want to make sure this will be ok for my car. It has/will have all bolt ons by next month.

4000 don’t be a pussy

Make sure you install a tranny cooler with the high stall and make sure you use proper clamps or getting ends with fittings

i would go 4000 but getting a good deal on this convertor thats if the guy emails me back

this convertor will be fine with what you got. will make it quite a bit faster too. probably even be a decent stall if you get a cam also.

inline with the factory cooler?

Buy my intake

I really don’t like the big stall mainly because it kills the efficiency of the vehicle. But it depends on your setup. A big cam high rpm car needs a big stall but sucks to drive on the street. Old school guys love huge stalls with sick gears because years ago they didn’t have the head flow and power levels of todays high performance cars. I would say what do want to do with your car. You want to be a street or race car. I had a TCI 3000 converter and broke it within 3 months and went to Hughs 3500. The car went faster ET and dropped MPH by 2. Bigger converter equal more slippage and less efficiency. I went through the whole converter shit and found out most converter companies outsource there converters. I stuck with Hughs and had them build me a custom converter to my specs and its been great. 2800-3000 stall barley no slippage and great efficiency. If you plan on running a power adder I would go with no more than 3000 for the street.

ya i was going to get back to you on that…i emailed a different guy about intake manifold, if he doesnt reply then i will buy yours

this car will be for strip mostly and some cruizing and what not… i plan on making this car all strip eventually

The conveter should be a close match to the cams power band.I usually choose about 500 rpm more than what the cam says it starts pulling at.My boss had a 3,200 stall in his car and he thought it would 60 ft better with a 3,800,it didnt make any difference. And to much stall can make you slower.

When you upgrade the convertor to 4000 down the line feel free to bump this thread

3800 should be fine…

Most of the people who bitch about over stalling car are comparing LS1s to their shitty old school SBCs

Take a look at LS1tech most people run between 3800-4400 and they only get faster/quicker with the bigger stall…Since the LS1 cars make a lot of top end and the larger stall ups the shift extension they see gains.

ya cam will be next years project , getting the stall, suspension and bolt ons was this year

mhmm…
t56 swap it?

Henry (baseball24) is not a standard tranny kinda guy. hence buying an auto lol

You are going to make your convertible a drag only car?

not a all out drag car but more for the strip and car shows and what not

i was going to say the same thing lol
