So, 2 weeks ago i put my gf’s summer wheels/tires on her IS300, when i was doing this i decided to teach her how to fix a flat tire if she ever got one… so i handed her the stock lug wrench and asked her to take off a wheel… she coudnt do it… no matter how much force she tried to apply she couldnt… so that got methinking there has to be an easier way for some chicks to be able to change tires… so i went to harbor freight to pick her up a 4 way lug wrench so she can get better leverage then with the stock L wrench… and i saw this
the thing is DUMB easy to take lugnuts off… she was able to loosen all 5 in about 1 minute… and she now feels confident in changing a tire if she ever has too
just a heads up, it also would work great for you autoX tire changers
If it truely is 33:1 it would be extremely easy to over torque.
Lets say you can lift 10 lbs without really “trying”. The moment arm on that looks at least 8" or .75’. So without “trying” anyone can apply 7.5 ft-lbs of torque. After multiplication: 247.5 ft-lbs is way way too much.
But it is Harbor Freight where 33:1 is more like 5:1…
To be honest, when I first started changing to race tires before events, I Had a hell of a time because I just had no upper body strength.
A friend gave me a breaker bar to use instead of the tool that originally came with the car, and I started focusing on my arms at the gym, and now I don’t have a problem. It’s still not the easiest thing in the world (thank you Porsche for using wheel bolts) but I can get it done.

:mamoru: It probably is 33:1. Having the small gear inside so small that it strips after 5 uses would be pretty standard for Harbor Freight.
The woman’s going to love it when she changes her flat, only to have the tool break halfway through, so she spins the nuts on finger tight and sees no reason to not drive home…
I personally wouldn’t use anything from harbor freight as a tool for “emergency” situations, such as changing a flat on a highway.

its actually built fairly well… i didnt tighten any lug nuts on there with this… i used a torque wrench, but i dont see how to overtighten it as it turns very slow, but the build quality of this thing isnt bad…
Who said she had to use it to put the lug nuts back on? She’s stranded with a flat, uses this cool device to get the stuck lug nuts loose, slaps on the spare, and tightens the the lugs with the factory wrench. Oooohh… it’s not within +/-.5 ft/lbs of spec like a fancy torque wrench, but it will get her home.
Honestly though, I don’t see my wife ever changing a tire, especially on the truck. Cell phone FTW. It’s from harbor freight, so I wouldn’t want to use it for changing tires every week, but as an emergency rarely use thing it’s probably fine.

ive seen these other places made by other “companies” they are identical to this one, just cost 2-3X the price… there was one avail on asseenontv.com a while ago for 19.99, but the housing was plastic…
and yes, i plan on her using this only to loosen the lugnuts and use the stock wrench to get it back on…
she has AAA, but i wanted to teach her how to do it just in case, its a good thin everybody should know… you never know when your cell coverage may suck or battery is dead etc etc… id rather have her do it on her own then flag somebody down for help/rape
Hmmm… That would be cool to take lugs off, putting them back on, im not sure if i would trust it… But it sure does suck to take off lugs that got put on by those dam impact wrenches…
This whole post turned into a flame on Viper for buying his g/f this lug nut loosener. :bloated: If it works for her and she is fine with it then why does everyone else here care so much.
