It’s tough to get market value when you are in it for yourself.
It’s also tough to ask friends to pay market value.
I’m not sure if that is even market value these days.
$20 is a good price. Thats a case of cheap beer
Doing it for fun > profit.

Absolutely…and I have meet a bunch of really cool people.
The car community needs more people like you in it Luke. We have some really knowledgeable people but no one looking to help someone out, ever. Your work is awesome, i’ll call you when I finally have time to pick up a toy to tinker with.
Thanks Gennaro.
When you need something just let me know.
Hey Luke, have you ever looked at the S2000 cluster? Theres one company that retro fits them and changes the LEDs.
They have 2 different prices. One price is for them to do it the other pice is a DIY kit. Both are kinda pricey though.
If you havent heard of it I can shoot you the link(if you wanna check it out)
:suckoff:
You mentioned this mod a while back. I’ve never worked on the S2000 cluster let alone and S2000. But, if you want to post up the info I can look into it for you.
Heres the link. 18 pages worth but it might be a good read. Plus if you can make it cheaper im sure they can be sold to the s2ki. I know I want one but cant see spending 300+ on it.
Maybe the pricing is right on though…not sure
^ $279 for that is a steal…do it.
Dang, was hoping there was a way to make it cheaper. We shall see what Santa brings me this year
There are “cheaper” ways to make it…but the results that kit has are WAY better than any cheaper solution. I charge $250 for my MR2 upgrade and that has almost the EXACT same amount of work into the mod. But, I do not use any filtering. Honestly, his is better than mine.
Well, good to know pricing is spot on then. Thx
Have I told you lately how much I hate you?! Fuuuuuu.
Luke brought my XBOX back to life
Pics?
Is the red ring of death now a different color?
Lol that’d be a funny trick to play on someone
Swap green for red
No pics of the Xbox repair.
The process is “simple” with the right tools. Essentially I preheat the board with a Air Bath set to 200°F. If it is a newer unit I remove the glue on the GPU and CPU. I then use a Hot Air Rework Station to Re-Flow the BGA connections. It is a time intensive process and is complete skill with applying heat evenly. Most of what I read was that the GPU suffers from colder solder joints because Microsoft contracted someone to make the motherboards that did not profile the PCB correctly…
I have repaired a number of Xboxes but there is no guarantee that the GPU and CPU overheating will be fixed after reflow. I notice one of the 8 pad ICs on Joes unit was disconnected. I reflowed that part as well on more of a “I bet that’s not supposed to be like that…” instinct.
I also applied a Berquist Gap Pad on both the GPU and CPU but that did not fix the overheating issue as I thought it would. Joe resorted to using thermal paste and that ultimately worked.
Joe’s unit also already had the X-clamp fix. I think you can still buy kits for around $30.

FYI, I could change the LEDs out for a different color…not for the Red ring but I could change the Green LEDs to Blue or Yellow for example.
Hey Luke, I’ll try to convince my buddy Tim (who bought my mom’s old MR2) to do this…unlikely, as he is not really into the interior mod kind of thing, but I’ll see what he says…
Sure thing.
I’m still waiting for you to cave on having me do your Black 91. I can just redo the OEM Green/Red. It will be brighter, more crisp, and reliable but still retain that OEM look. I know you like the nostalgic look; so keep it OEM looking. I have spare HVACs (re-read plural, around 12) if you want me to make one for you to see in person. If you like it I can swap the upgrade with little effort. I plan on building extra units and selling them outright as well. How about we swap for 2 leather couches from a WNY establishment…good luck finding that one.
Ha, we’ll talk, we’ll talk…
BUMP
just got done reassembling my netbook that Luke_l replaced the power jack on for me. less than 24hr turnaround when i told him to take his time. i could not be happier!
