machine shop database...

i figured we should start this up. a good thread on nothing but machine shops. So post up your good and bad shops.

i guess ill start.

Here are shops i dealt w/, or have personally seen work they did and can reccomend—

A1 machine shop- greensburg
KMP- west newton
Savani- mckeesport

Bad shops–

i dont have any personal experiences of bad machine shops. But i have heard horror stories about a few. Yet i wont post them as i dont want to falsely accuse.

I’ve only heard good things about Dinterman’s in Rochester

heard / had good experience with p&r engine in greensburg.

Minor machining done at Brougher’s, but no problems.

I usually deal with greg (i dont know the shops name) in uniontown, hes real good with everything i had him do,

i’m dropping off some vortec heads at a1 machine. i’ll let ya know my experiance when there done.

Denny Ashcraft in north butler: Excellent
Pittsburgh Machine Service: Excellent
Hoffmans in butler: Excellent, but pricey

DLK: motor spun a rod bearing after 10miles, bored the cylinders .006" over what I wanted…ring gaps fawked

Dunk: 2 motors junk, journals oblonged after fixed (spun bearings)

gearhead–what did pgh machine do for you?

station auto parts in Coraopolis…so far Ray seems to work with me…ill know final results this week

I have them turn and balance my rotating assemblies along with sizing the mains and rods. I believe i’ve had an H22, H23, one 350 sbc, a 454 bbc, and my 7 bolt 4g63. The only thing that hasn’t run yet is my 4g63, but im sure it will be fine. I spend probably 2k with him getting that motor all done.

Even getting odd ball parts he’s good with. I had to get bearings for my first 3sgte motor and didn’t have any luck finding them (Toyota sent me the wrong bearings and never could figure out which ones were the right ones, so i gave up). Bob tracked them down no prob.

they did my head on the corrado, i know quite a few dubbers that go down there as well… all were good results

I know i took a dub head to Ashcraft speed n marine to get machined for some crazy ass 286 cam or something. did an awesome job

Jacksons in kittanning: do awesome work but don’t do final assembly

pittsburgh crankshaft :bigthumb:

GMS I believe it’s called -> Greg’s Machine Shop

Super cool guy, very nice work. He’s done two honda heads and several bottom ends for me. Also does work for another rather notorious street racer from recent years, although I think he’s gone drifting these days.

i had a poor experience with station from coraopolis.
