Are there any shops around here that can bore out some 1" sch. 80 pipe that is 48"long?
I need to open up the ID to about 1.00"
I will be inserting a 1" OD tube and need to eliminate as much free space as possible while still being able to remove the tube later.
I’m trying to remember the name of the guy on site that has done some work for me. I doubt they have the capability, but maybe. I think he’s in building 62. Paul… Um… Howell. Talk to him.
DOM Mechanical tubing is the way to go with slip fits. It has a much higher straightness tolerance than ERW pipe, is cold drawn and usually not some pos low carbon steel.
Paul Howell He does a lot of my relief testing.
This is for work, and I am not a mechanical engineer, so my knowledge base is lacking.
I will look into the mechanical tubing route, as well as ASME requirements
I need as little dead volume as possible for small gas flow at 500psi.
This contraption of mine will also be submerged in pressurized liquid N2.
My initial plan was for sch40 pipe and the 1" tube.
That left me needing to make up .049" I might try and get a ceramic sleeve or something made unless I can figure out a better way to reduce it.
I only need 4 assemblies, so its not worth buying any equipment. I would rather not need additional components as I would add to the complexity some, plus… I’m really good at breaking things.
Anyone have any gun drilling equipment locally? I remember seeing an OCC episode where they drilled out some hex bar stock for a frame…
Why don’t you just turn down the center piece to fit? That’d be MUCH easier than trying to drill out 48". Unless you need the center tube to be 1" OD, then ignore this post.
