Maintaining leather (wheels, shift knobs and seats)

If you’ve ever felt a brand new leather wrapped steering wheel, there is definition in the leather, it is matte and feels rough. I love it.

I noticed on my Pathfinder, Explorer, SRT4 and about a million other leather wrapped wheels that after a year or so…it becomes slippery and smooth.

Seats also begin to lose their “texture” and get glazed over and shiny. Is there any way to prevent this?

be a fggt and put on a steering wheel cover

Only if it says Chevrolet/Nascar/24 on it and has a Jeff Gordon color scheme.

i think, if you bought a toyota nascar one… that would be “jdm” …sorta?

but basically, the constant oil, rough texture of your hands, etc etc ruins the feeling after time :frowning:

i was gonna say wear driving gloves… but then you wouldn’t be able to feel it anyway. :frowning:

you could always get custom gloves that have leather on the inside and cotton on the outside, that way you are still getting the leather experience while not damaging the wheel

leather wears out pretty badly. Probably won’t be able to do much about it.

Aren’t you rich enough to be able to either buy a new car ever few years, or at a minimum just replace the leather parts that get worn?

In all seriousness, it’s wear and tear. All the leather care I’ve dealt with has been aimed at keeping it from drying out rather than preventing the evidence of being used.

yeah, all you can really do is condition it often with GOOD stuff to make sure it doesnt dry out and start to look like shit.
