Major help on a car choice

Okay I have the choice between a 2000 z28 camaro with t-tops. It is either that car or I can get a 1979 camaro. I cant seem to decide. Im looking for a nice car that is quick . I can go with either car I like older cars but my parents think its time for a car that is newer and more reliable. I have no idea what to do please give your opinion. What would be a cheaper car to modify? Thank you for you time

the 2000 camaro will be. you will also enjoy it more, and LS1’s are a lot quicker than the 79 probably.

The 2000 is a hell of a lot more practical… Is this going to be a regular driver? Or just a summer car?

Well its going to be a summer car. I have a porsche 944 right now that Im planing on selling to get the money for the car. Im going to ut alot of money into the car.

if you want reliable don’t go crazy modding it…

A 2000 camaro will be easier to make fast, get better gas mileage, and look just like every other F-body.

The 1979 will give you that old school look, but it will be *harder to make it fast. Plus you will prolly net ~5mpg or less once it is fast.

Will this car be a driver or more a drag car?

How fast, and how much do you want to spend?

You can pick up some really good deals on already built pre-loved cars now too.

Well it is going to be more of a summer car not drag car. I will be taking it to the drags on friday nights though.

I have a truck for the winter so it will never see the snow

From what I’m getting is that you want a fast fun driver?

If so, and you don’t want to do a lot of hard work, just get the 2000 Camaro.

Put in a build 12" some 3.90s cam it and run like the wind.

If you want to go the harder route but have a “cooler” car buy the 1979.

Swap in a 5.3L truck engine that you built up along with a ECU and a t-56, and have a cool ass custom car.

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. The 2000 will probably cost more for the car and cost more to mod it,but it would be a better driving car with more bells and whistles.Plus you will have to worry about it passing emission inspection. The 79 is easier to work on and parts alot are alot cheaper.Either car can be made as fast as you need it.If it was me i would build a nice stroker small block or big block for the 79.

honestly in my humble opinion if this is a second vehicle i would go with the 79 sure it will be worse on gas and more money to maintain but i always think the point of a fun car is having something special that is original or unique. I know its not a 60’s but still there will be alot more people with the 2000 than a 79. the 79 has more character its one of those cars you gotta put time money sweat and blood into ya know? Every out of the box vehicle i have had i liked but all the things i have had that i had to put alot of work into and were more rare i appreciated way more…the 79 is just more of a personal unique project, not something alot of people have…79 in my opinion

i do not know your age, or your relationship status, but the 00’ Z28 will get you more bitches.

hahaha depends on the girl! If you found a girl that liked a 79 now thats a girl worth keeping lol

How is the handleing on the 79 I have heard many opinions but yet to hear from some one who owened one

I had a 78 Z28.It handled pretty good. The ride was stiff though. The newer ones ride alot nicer. It was also pretty quick,350 4 speed and 411s.Mine was ugly as sin though, brown with tan interior.

any old muscle car is gonna handle like poop compared to something more modern. think about it, they were built to run quarter miles on bias ply tires as fast as possible. turning optional.

Im pretty sure they came with radials.

Ya I knew that the handleing wouldnt be like some thing modern. I still am undecided there is a cheap 79 z28 with a 4 speed around my area. Its like 3 grand while If I would go and get the 2000 z28 with a 6 speed is about 7 grand. What do you think would perform better for street use. I have a porsche 944 right now that is unique but kinda blends in because it kinda had the same styleing as the cars do today but the 79 has a different idk what it is to it. I really like the car but im worried about the reliebility and how hard getting parts for it is going to be

it wont be hard getting parts
i think the new camaro is the better overall car in everyway (and ull get 30mpg highway  )

although its not the same thing, i had an 87 iroc and a 95trans am and i can tell you i loved the trans am a lot more in every single way

I thought the Z28 camaro was an LT1 car?
