Man Wins $10 Million in Warren County's Largest Verdict

A Warren County man won a lawsuit for $10 million against the messenger company United Parcel Service on Wednesday after a two-and-a-half week trial.

Philip Cote, Jr., who was 27 at the time of the 2005 accident, sued UPS after the collision forced doctors to amputate his dominant right arm.

According to Cote’s attorney, Brian Breedlove, Cote was driving a 1994 Honda motorcycle when, Breedlove said, he was cut off by a UPS package truck making a left turn at the intersection of Larose St. and Sherman Ave. on July 7, 2005.

But a witness told CBS 6 back in 2005 that Cote had been engaging in the risky motorcycle practice of “popping wheelies” before he hit the back of the truck.

As a result of the impact, Breedlove said, doctors had to amputate Cote’s arm. They were unable to re-attach it.

Cote was working as a manual laborer at Finch & Pruyn at the time of the accident, and was unable to resume his work at the company as a result of the accident.
