I’m getting married in like 3 months (looking like a small wedding at Holiday valley in January); and we’ve been looking at bands for both of us.
I’ve been seriously looking at and considering a Tungsten Carbide band just for the durability and basic indestructibility. Nothing fancy; just a simple 6mm or 8mm wide band (I don’t have sausage fingers so a super wide one won’t look right), but out of TC instead of gold/silver/titanium.
What do you have and what are your thoughts on the TC rings?
my thoughts are, you’re not going to break any wedding band you get, so just pick whatever you like.
mine’s paladium, liked the way it looked… however one note, i wouldn’t bother getting anything in a brushed finish because it scrapes off pretty quick.
i have a all white gold one…and its heavy ring… this is one draw back about the Tungsten for me … i looked at them but if felt like i did not have anything on…
we ot our rings to match … i have 3 stright lines on mine… and she has 3 lines on her 2 but they kinda squiggly/wavy lines
Really? The Tungsten ones I’ve tried on are all heavy as hell…
The Titanium ones don’t weigh squat, but the Tungsten Carbide rings are all the heaviest per size (Highest density in comparison to Platinum, Gold, or Titanium; I think…)
edit - I’m incorrect, it doesn’t have the highest density…
Same here minus the the diamonds. Hammered finish so if I clunk it against something say between a 5lb sledge dropped at a height of approximately 6"and the garage floor, doesn’t show.
Don’t injure yourself and have to cut it off fast. That would be my only concern. My dad broke his shoulder and I had to get his ring off quick. 2 trips to the hardware store for some serious cutters. It was a bitch!
I thought about this and that’s why I don’t want the Titanium… they can’t cut them off without serious tooling and problems.
The Tungsten Carbides can be “broken” off with a pair of vicegrips. (Just squeeze until you hear it crack, then repeat on the other side and they fall off).
I have a Coge Titanium ring and love it. Light weight, barely notice I’m wearing it. And so far it’s been indesctructible. Cheaper than some of the others as well, less than $400 for the one I got.
Make sure you don’t gain or lose too much weight, many of these rings cannot be resized.
TC is a metal alloy of Tungsten, Carbon, and Nickel.
Ceramic rings are generally a Zirconia ceramic powder compressed and heated into a mold. Not a metal, VERY hard, scratch resistant, and “brittle”. Just like Tungsten, except not a metal.
