2009 was a VERY frustrating year, First the built trans blew up the opening weekend of PRP 2009 then we had 2 different cam setups in the car and it did not put down the numbers it should have (12.4 N/A, should have been in the high 11’s)… I had a lot of help from members here in 2009, thanks to Jeff, Mike @ OST, quadman, Torrid GTO, Pittsburgh Performance and edcmat-l1 for the help throughout the year. When Ed ran my car on the dyno at Pittsburgh Performance it only managed 406rwhp through a locked converter N/A, Ed pointed out that there was an airflow problem somewhere.
So for 2010 I am going to an L92/LS3 top end setup with a custom grind cam for the application.
Things I will be adding:
L92 heads milled 0.030 to retain stock compression
LS3 Intake manifold
LS3 Injectors
Custom grind L92 cam
25% Underdrive pulley
LS7 Lifters
Lingenfelter/Walbro high flow fuel pump
Svede Speed Over the Radiator Cold air intake
Billet oil catch can
And Edcmat-l1 will be dyno tuning it in April
Did you have to flycut your pistons with the origina 6.xx liftl cam? I was looking to put a 239/255 duration .624/.624 lift cam in my lq4. I was planning not to run the cam until I go with aftermarket pistons with pockets but lately I was hoping there is a chance I can get away with it on the stock piston.
No I did not, the duration is really what kills your PTV and there is no way you would get away with a 255 exhaust duration on a stock LS2, not sure what the PTV is on the LQ4 tho.
Why would you want to run a cam like that? I would hope it’s not a stock cubed motor. It will suck in a small cube motor. Def have to flycut stock pistons.
Where’s all the twinkie love? Ima chocolaholic, but a twinkie will do in a pinch LOL.
Im sure he knows he has to flycut his pistons and if u look up the cam on comps website it even says its good on any
LS/R Rectangular Port 3-Bolt Cams (For All Out Power Only, 5.7L - 6.2L). So why would it suck in a smal cube motor if comp says it recomended in any 5.7 to 6.2?
I was just curious, because I am scared I will have to flycut the stock pistons too much. I saw SK didnt have to flycut his with .600 lift so I got my hopes up that maybe it was possible.
I also guess it does not even matter, since I have a different bottom end and probably different sized valves.
It will be going on a stock cube 6.0 but the rest won’t be stock if that matters. It has a big split in duration that I am hoping to benefit from with the rectangle port heads.
The motor will be getting rods and pistons but at the moment I would like to run the stock bottom end so I can dump the money into other parts of the car first.
Just because COMP sells cams, doesn’t mean they’re any good at specing them. that cam will work, in that it will open and close the valves, but it is in no way even close to a good working cam.
It’s not lift you need to worry about, it’s duration. Esp duration below .200 lift. That’s when the valves are in closest proximity to the pistons. by the time you reach max lift, the piston is quite a distance away.
