Just wondering your views. Its kinda annoying now. I scan and post on various car forums and man do people bash Maxima’s. I’ve even seen a Maxima nominated as car of the week on some site and people bashed saying its not a 4DSC and take it off as they suck. Just recently on a Prelude forum I just frequent I got bashed for owning one. “No one wants a Maxima”.
Its just annoying now to see the ignorance, especially coming from owners who own supposed 2 door sport cars that are slower then a “Grocery Getter”. I even turned around and threatend some to track meets and show how a grocery getter will whip them :D. Honda owners definately have a messed up mentality (most of the bashing comes from those communities). Whats everyones view on this since you are fellow Nissan owners. Do you guys receive the same stereotype owning a Nissan?
You know what, I’ve always loved the Maxima’s and would gladly own one as a daily driver, especially after I drove in my buddy Cole’s Maxima. The car is super smooth, power delivery is there and it’s very classy. Then there’s the hp factor and the car isn’t quite as heavy as she looks so it for sure moves.
It’s only the price I think that makes people shy away I think. No it’s not grossely overpriced but we all know how people are when it comes to money but then, this is pretty Nissan’s flagship car here in North America.
I think the Maxima is great car and I’d be happy to own one!
Hell, no. I own a Z, and even the most diehard Honda heads have nothing to say about it. They best they can come up with is “shoulda bought an S2000”, to which my response is “torque owns” and they KNOW it, lol.
But in all seriousness, Honda fans take too much flak. Sure, there are many who are narrowminded idiots (most can be found on Honda-Tech), but there are just as many who are cool about cars. Frankly, with all the sites I’ve been on, it’s my experience that there are just as many Honda BASHERS as there are Honda fanboys. I’ve seen plenty of Nissan owners bash Hondas for no reason, too.
Thats true but overall I find the Nissan community more open to other cars then Honda owners. In Honda meets all you see are Hondas. At Nissan forum meets you tend to see a lot of other cars as well as Nissan’s at other meets appreciating a well built car more so then then the name.
Why would you compare an S2 to a 350? lol No replacement for displacement
i bash maxima’s regularly, they really should have called it the minima
It still strikes me as odd to why we got the fwd model instead of the A31 cefiro. As nissan went to the trouble of making a LHD version and send it to the Cayman Islands but not here.
Never knew that. The 5th gen Maxima (00-03) however even though built in Japan is Euro shell. The I30-I35 is the actual Maxima. This I don’t mind…I love the styling of the Euro model Maxima.
But theres a RWD version? DAMN I wonder how much a conversion would be
But of course, Honda is very biased when it comes to cars. Which is why everyone like us likes to bash on Hondas (I know I do). “My lug nuts has more torque than your Honda!!!”
i dotn see it as much, i mean ppl talk smack but off the line, when the TQ matters they are left speechless…
funny story, at a party friend had a teg and was claiming honda was king of tuning & blah blah blah… and this is when i recently had purchased my max so it was stock, so off the line we took off i got about a car lenght on him and it just kept growning…his face was priceless… now he respects the VQ
I think people don’t give the Maxima enough respect. I personally was a Honda/Acura man in my past. Owned them all…Honda, Acura, Audi…even a porsche. Then my dad got a G35…i was floored. I started shopping for my daily driver and I founda 99 5sp maxima SE for 7000 bucks. Took it for a whip and never looked back…the Grocery getter then became my project. Something to be said about a 2 door “tuned” sports car getting eaten by a 4 door family sedan.
hahah… i remember seeing a short advertisement through a friend with a list… the differences between a muscle car and a honda civic… pretty amusing… if I find it on my computer i’ll post it up here
BTW In stock form a maxima is nothing more than a quick straight line grocery getter. I would easily choose the new Camry over the '07 CVT only Maxima, however I the cheaper '07 Altima 3.5 6spd would get my money for obvious reasons (6spd, updated VQ, lighter, smaller, better looking…subjective).
