Meet Dodge Hornet, the Caliber Replacement

Sneak peak at the Dodge Hornet which will be replacing the Caliber.

When we first caught wind of the Fiat intention to get cozy with Chrysler, our first thoughts leapt to the slew of sexy Italian compacts that could conceivably make their way to the states. Of all the hardware that could potentially be Americanized, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta was the one hatch that had our loins stirring the most. Now our elite squad of spy photographers have nabbed a few photos of a four-door version of the hatch wearing a split crosshair grille. From the looks of things, these are full-production spec prototypes out for desert testing. The whispers kicking around the web lead us to believe that the car will be called the Hornet and should lock horns nicely with metal like the Ford Focus.

To say that we can’t wait to usher the Caliber out the door is an understatement. Given that the compact segment has grown into a fiercely competitive slice of the market, Dodge needs hardware that can perform on style, efficiency and economy. Here’s hoping the Hornet is up to the task.

While the vehicle in the image above was originally photographed with matte black vinyl covering its flanks, we’ve colorized the sheet metal to give us a better idea of what to expect from the sedan version of the car.

The Neon returns!

epic. AR has some awesome cars.

Yay. It’s about time.

I’m glad domestic car companies have become so good at disguising rebranded imports, so dyed in the wool 'merica driving, import haters will happily buy them. Even naming it something reminiscent of the glory days, they’re pros at this point

Don’t get me wrong, it looks promising, it’s just sad to see that this is the way things are now

couldnt you also look at it like dodge has been shit at ‘world cars’ and needed AR where as the Focus is a very strong ‘world car’ that keeps getting better with every iteration?

i personaly wouldnt buy a focus but i’ve driven them and they’re decent for what they are.

The Fiesta, Focus, and a bunch of the hyundai sub-compacts and even some of the GM stuff are all pretty cool entry level cars nowadays.

Dodge has been selling Hyundai’s for a lil bit now, in Mexico.

Rebadged Hyundai Elantra, gives you a Dodge Attitude.

Quite gay.

Watch this video review and lets see how badly Chrysler can fuck it up,I guarantee we wont see 49mpg,6speed manual and 170hp…

this guy is probably correct. Also, it looks like it stole some of the bodylines from the new ford fiesta.

Finally, anything has got to be better than the caliber. I’ve never actually hated driving a car so much as the caliber.

So a new Chrysler product is going to be based on an Alfa Romeo? So it will still have all the unreliability Chrysler fans know and love, but now instead of being bland on those rare moments their cars are actually running right they’ll be full of Italian soul and passion.

Every new Hornet comes with a crazy Italian midget that jumps out of the glove box whenever there’s a problem.

That’s customer service.

I don’t think FWD economy Fiats and Alfa Romeos really have much italian soul in them.

front end reminds me of vw, and the side profile reminds me of hyundai elantra.

lame.

Your absolutely right. I really miss this profile.

meh, but better than ram badge…

Rumor has it that you will be able to buy the Giulietta and other Alfa Romeo’s without the Dodge “facelifts” in the U.S. in the coming years.

Oh thank god dodge is making another terrible car…
