Just adopted a pup from the SPCA, she is 1 year 6 months. Appears to be a pit/boxer/terrier mix of some sort. She was a stray. Sorry for crappy pictures, she doesn’t sit still…
Any training tips? she loves to jump up you if you lay down. She gets very excited very quickly/easily.
Dogs that jump up have impulse control problems which is very common. “Sit to greet” is a common way of training to work on this. You put the dog on a leash and tie it to something. Then have lots of people take turns walking up with treats and if the dog sits it gets a treat. If the dog doesn’t sit you just walk away (don’t punish). The goal is to get the dog to figure out that sitting to greet is the expected and rewarded behavior.
Yes, but she doesnt jump on new guests. She only jumps if you get on your knees or lay down because its “play time” at that point and she gets way too excited and rough!
My niece is 3 years old and I don’t want her to get crushed.
She’s adorable. She looks a lot like my pit/lab SPCA rescue. I highly suggest puppy socialization and basic training classes. Love your dog in Clarence is awesome as is k9 connection in buffalo. Or even the petsmart classes are pretty decent.
