Mercedes SL65 goes 11.8 @ 126 bone stock

I know, I know - I wouldn’t have believed it either, except that I was there driving it As promised, I got my new SL65 broken in by early this week, took it in for the 1000 mile service, and then headed up to Sacto this evening for some 1/4 runs. The car is bone stock, down to the stock Bridgestone RE050 rear tires on 19" rims.

My first run of the evening was just after arriving and without cooling down from the 125 mile drive up to Sacto. The SL mustered an 11.7 @ 123 with modest intervention from the traction control in 1st gear. As the evening wore on and temps dropped, traction in 1st went away but power went up – WAY up. My fastest run of the evening netted an 11.8 @ 126 with the traction control still kicking in during 1st. Other runs were fairly consistent 11.8 @ 125, with everything depending on how much I angered the traction gods.

All in all, I’m very impressed with this car. I’m revising my previous estimates - I think with drag radials it’ll run 11.4 @ 127. I’ll be back to the 'strip in 2 weeks to test that theory
