Microsoft Word nerds enter

So.

I have a report that I have a bunch of tables and figures.

Usually in the preceding text before a table I have something like this:

As seen in table 1 - this is the cool stuff you will find the results of my hacking skills.

then i present a table with a caption “table 1 - this is the cool stuff”

NOW… here is my issue. if I add or subtract a table someplace in my document, all of the table captions will update automatically - BUT the text I had in my preceding paragraph, wont. I have to manually go back and update everything which presents an issue because said report has 100 tables…

How do I link the preceding paragraph blurb to the appropriate table/figure number?

cross-reference will do it… the trick is to have the figure/table established prior to setting up the linkage…
