Mig welding aluminum?

I know it can be done with the proper machine setup, shielding gas and technique… The reason is I’d like to weld a handfull of aluminum things from brackets to tubing/pipe (exhaust) on certain occasions. I dont need it to be anything spectacular but hopefully it can be fairly air tight and semi strong.

Any opinions? Suggestions? Give up on aluminum until i can buy a tig or pay someone to weld it?

I really dont want to buy a tig since I only need to weld aluminum here and there.

for how much it cost for a spool gun you can pick up a TIG for about same price. if you were doing production then a spool gun would be way to go. but for most part TIG is more practical

lincoln claims that you just need their “teflon liner” and not a spool gun… im guess this is a load of horse poop?

the big problem is pushing the aluminum wire through the liner. i have thought about doing the same thing you are talking about. but you have to have a dedicated liner for AL. and with AL being soft it may break in the liner while welding.

Gotcha. You are the man. I think im going to forget about it until a tig is in the cards.

muggy weld for the win…
