Rochester, but unlike last year its not a come home on weekends type of deal. I’m moving all my shit out there and next summer is my co-op. Following that I’ll get my commission and be sent to somewhere like Georgia to finish my training.
good luck with the move
well, hit the dyno today I had an ignition problem at anything over 16 pounds. It was basically a waste of time. The car did make 200 hp at 15/16 psi with no timing.
Yea tell me about it, I felt horrible about the whole ordeal.
Car broke up real bad ~5400rpms to redline(~7800) at any consistent boost of 17psi or more. Fuel/timing corrections made no change. Even keeping the tune that runs so-so and just upping the boost a minute amount(~1psi) resulted in a terrible scenario. Motor feels like it has weak spark or complete spark quench to me. Motor also has a bad stumbling issue at the Vtec interchange, but I’m not adept in the honda tuning world and don’t really know the baselines for this motor. Also was my first time ever working with this new EC Tune program. Nice layout, just really need more time to work with it and sort the features out.
It’ll get sorted out eventually, just blows that todays expense was no different than tossing money out the window. :idiots Street tuning = free to work out the bugs…
After this car get’s done, I think I’ll stick to the german/mitsu stuff.
Shop(NE Speed Shop) is nice though, so is Jim.
swearing off hondas already :lol
Thanks for the help today Adam. I have already picked up a new dizzy and I’ll see if that fixes anything tomorrow morning with some street pulls.
I posted the “calibration” and datalog on the ECtune website so we’ll have to see what they say.
Ah it’s just one of those things, stick to what you know and what you’re good at(AKA Porsche’s and Evo’s for me) I just don’t ever work on Hondas here, let lone tune enough of them to be snappy at it like others are. Every car make has it’s tips/quirks and your car is seriously the ONLY Honda I’ve touched since I did the GSR swap on Kevins DelSol back in like 2003. Had I known that it would end up as it did today I would have been much happier sorting out the issues at my place and have saved you some cash
I’d be most interested in knowing the results from tomorrow with the new dizzy in place and see if it makes any difference up top.
Did you log tonight on the way home??? I’m still trying to DL and unzip that program…BS server crap…
I didnt actually. but here is a decent image from a clean run today:
Like I said I’m not honda guy but realistically that choke/cut/stumble issue needs to be diagnosed + resolved first, then spend some more time smoothing out that bouncy AFR curve ~4-5250K some more, then go into boost/timing changes. AFR is still all over the place in that rpm range better than what is was earlier. The initial 10.2xx/12.5xx/11.2xx/ect AFR swaying crap is what annoyed me the most, as well as that damn dump at Vtec(which was never consistent in its own right IIRC).
BTW, how many lines of resolution(max) can that program lay out on the graph for fuel on both Hi+Lo maps?? Never did get into that today…
I just played around with it, I now have 500-5500 RPMs by 250 RPM increments and 0 to 24 PSI by approximately 2 psi increments. That should help a bit.
as far as the dump at vtec, im not too sure about that. I cant actually find any evidence of it on the datalogs. The only dump is when the boost cuts back from the initial spike.
Yea that’ll help tune the AFR curve a bit better instead of the 500rpm cell increments it had before. Broader range to tune = more work, but a better resolution helps smooth things out easier in the long run.
Dump…yea that boost issue might just happening right a the Vtec transition. Never really looked at it as I was focusing on the other issues at hand. Wish I had more time. I really need more time to just sit with that program and learn the tricks of it :sad It doesn’t have some nice features but need to know what it all does to make full use of it.
The hotter plugs worked like a charm. Ill be tuning it on the street as I go.
on another note, I finally took the knife to my old hood:
Check this out:
Not done yet, but shit… That looks good.
that does look really good :thumb
damn that does look good for a DIY :thumb
that hood looks nasty how did you do that?
measuring tape, masking tape, dremel. ;D
For those of you who dont know, they do NOT make this style hood for my car. I have been thinking of doing this for a long time.
:thumb looking good…
wtf thats great. and for you that will actually make a difference haha
dude thats crazy and looks sick!!!
yea i’m really happy with it
