Yeah I mean when you turbo an non-turbo platform, you’re going to run into some reliablilty issues for sure. I’m anxious though to see some long term testing on a VQ in a sentra platform. The engine may be more reliable than the car is sits in.
I think if you bought the VQ parts together, the full engine and trans, and then did a complete swap like that, it would probably be a fairly reliable swap. I mean, the VQ has already proven itself to be a pretty freakin’ reliable engine and a lot of the Spec parts are shared with the other VQ powered cars anyway, the 500 WHP axles as an example.
However, it won’t be as cheap as initially thought. A local shop had a wrecked '04 Maxima with the 6 speed trans and 1K on the clock, and they wanted 4500 for just the engine/trans combo, so it’s hardly the bargain option compared to the turbo.
However, I think going N/A could be an advantage over turbo because you can get most of the acceleration without forcing additional pressure into the engine. This might be just my faulty logic though.
Of course there is me and my love for crappy French cars never ends. I’m guessing if they can fit the 1.8 in the versa that uses the Clio chassis and which can fit Renaults new 2.0L Turbo engine which stock makes 225 bhp. But we will see if they release a versa 2 door. I’m not sure what my next project car will be once I’m done my Renault. Might just end up helping Kris with the necc race car.
