Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, has signed on with Microsoft to produce two titles for the next version of the Xbox.
Sakaguchi will lead the development of two role-playing games for the successor to the current Xbox, Microsoft said in a statement on Thursday. The two games will be exclusive to the Xbox and will be published by Microsoft’s Game Studios group
So it might have some sweet turned based rpgs.
Currently there is one fully turn based rpg on the xbox
Lord of the Ring : The third age
So let’s see… you need the $400 system to go backwards compatable… because you need the emulator which appairently needs the hard drive. That’s :gay: for MS.
not to feed the thread or anything… I just watched the metal gear solid 4 trailer and holy fucking shit that looks amazing. it’s about 8 minutes long but it’s really worth watching.
That’s not my point… to get backwards compatability you need to buy the more expensive system and you need to be able to go online with that system to download the emulator.
Besides… something tells me the PS3 won’t be as expensive as anyone is making it to seem. Notice nothing has been announced for that yet. Oh well… we’ll see.
not completely true. you would only have to go online to get the “drivers” (that’s what they’re calling them) for any newly supported games. the premium system (the one with the hdd) will come preloaded and ready to play <200 xbox titles. as time passes i’m sure the system will come preloaded with all new drivers as available.
what’s more, down the line i’m sure that M$ will compile a disc of the “drivers” that will be available for a few bucks. that’s the same setup that they used for the launch of the halo 2 updates and map packs. if you weren’t able to download them (and btw they did cost money at one time) you could pick this disc up anywhere games were sold.
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/256424.asp – this was $20, which is around what the cost that the maps would have run you if you didn’t want to wait a few months for them to become available free for xbox live account holders.
i personally think that the whole idea of a $300 console is ridiculous. obviously they have come on that number due to the successful launch of the ps2 at that price point. even M$ thinks that $400 (plus games) is a lot to spend on a console for the majority of working parents (i think we’re forgetting that this is marketed to kids… well you know not just little kids… but 18-25 year old kids too lol.) hense the $300, no frills system.
i pity the child of the unknowing parent that purchases the base system though. boo hoo.
basically i think that it hits an established and successful price point, that’s about it.
Eh… $300 system launch sucks but you should be used to it… if I’m not mistaken the original Playstation launched at $400. I hate as much as the next guy though… it’s damn expensive.
word, i’m considering giving just cards for xmas. they can say something to the effect of “i had planned on buying you this great gift… only i spent $500+ on myself. sorry, love mike.” hehehehe
