…and you don’t think the XBox 360 is going to have some DRM technology in it? I’d put money on the fact that it will. M$ doesn’t want the 360 hacked liked the XBox was.
I’m definitely adopting a “wait and see” attitude about both consoles. I don’t have any interest in the XBox 360 unless it gets hacked into an open-source gaming and entertainment device like the XBox has.
I must also add that DRM would not come as a surprise from Sony. They are just as big of a Satan in the world as Microsoft, probably even worse. They own waaaayyyy too many different forms of media and want nothing more than to keep it under their tight control.
Bret you should know better…
I never said MS wasn’t going to use it… I said they probably had something to do with the article … and mentioning Sony in it and not MS.
Will they be doing something to prevent the major hacking that the XBOX went through? yeah… will it help? maybe. I’ve never tried to even hack my XBOX… I only have 1 CD on it… “Ride the Lightning” for CS… and my Live was activated for halo2 and I had live since day 1.
I don’t think the majority of XBOX users hacked theirs… Actually I highly doubt more than 15% of total users hacked it in any way. 15% is a lot when your talking millions… but is it worth investing millions to prevent it when you may end up losing more millions to people who are looking for mod-ability?
see where I’m going with this?
Lock it down too much and lose the 15% who would love to hack them.
Don’t lock it down too much, get that 15% and let them do what they want…
Piracy is going to be something that all the companies are going to try real hard this year to set-up. I know there will be someone that breaks that and mod-chips start getting made. Look at the PS2… PS1 had them too. At least with the Dreamcast you didn’t need a chip. Just download a game, burn it and play it.
There will always be someone that can break any kind of encryption. Every time someone breaks through the PSP code to allow homebrew stuff, Sony patches that and releases a new update. Then the cycle repeats. This will always be an issue… but will never really be solved.
If anyone keeps up with the xbox modding scene, as i do :snky:
They tried doing the same thing with different versions of the motherboard.
the newest version 1.6 is a bitch because now you HAVE to solder. (if you want good connects -i know there are spider chips ect.-)
But then again it might take 4 years to crack as the gamecube did.
(this was really because of the lack of groups working on it)
And some m$ guy probley drew the line saying we can spend X amount of dollars because on our last system we lost Y amount of money and it makes sense because if the make it super hard to do the mod then less people will when the system is cracked.
LOL
yep awesome.
