more cutty ignorance

The Pittsburgh Pirates, along with all other Major League Baseball Clubs playing at home on Friday, April 15, will recognize the contributions Jackie Robinson made to Major League Baseball and society by celebrating “Jackie Robinson Day.”

why? why is he celebrated for being black rather than a good baseball player. He did something that was inevitable anyway. What contribution did he make other than being black? Did he endure anything more than any other black person at that time would have? NO. Why does the MLB walk on egg shells with stuff that should be a non issue. Over doing it does not make up for stuff that happend. Things are supposed to equal but then you take something like this and single it out…thats segregation!!!

:dunno:

where does it say that they are celebrating soley on the fact that he was black???

why is jackie robinson famous?

here is the real issue. MLB is so pathetic right now so they suck off whatever group they can to get people to come out and watch. Meanwhile its their own fault the league is such a joke. They are too afraid to admidt NFL is run so much better that they won’t change and will run the game into the ground under the limp wristed assholes in charge. Who is the first black NFL player? who knows because its not a big deal and they didn’t make it one because they aren’t scared of people like jesse jackson.

he was black yeah. but he was good.

so who is to say he isnt being honored cause of his skill?

you rant to much

Ibnexthegoesoffabouttheasians

because their were better players that don’t get all the hoppla, ie: george brett

Don’t be so naieve about it.

I’m not going off cause he’s black and they are honoring him, i’m going off cause they keep adding to it. first they retired his number league wide. Babe ruth did more for baseball than robinson ever did but his number isn’t retired league wide, maybe cause he wasn’t black? When will it be enough for those people that cry foul? Ok now we are having jackie robinson day… 5 years i’m sure there will be an expansion team comprized of all black and be called the jackie robinsons. enough is enough, the table is slanted now in the other direction. things will never be right when everything is special event because of color. fastballs, field dimentions, rules and weather don’t discriminate. Let the game be that and not a political forum.

ok, looking at this from a baseball fan—

jackie robison was a good ball player. he could hit, field and run like a motherfucker. way better than alot of other players at the time. Actually, i think he may be the last person to straight up steal home, i.e. not on passed ball or wild pitch.

lookig at this from a racial point-- he put up w/ alot of shit. segregation was still in. He had to put up w/ alot of bullshit just to play. If ty cobb played ball in robinson’s era, no doubt the cock sucker would have slide into base spikes above knee high. But since cobb wasn’t playing, a slue of others did it for him.

Rememebr, Rickey made robinson eat crow for the first few yrs, play uncle tom if u will.

Why baseball decides to celebrate it-- couple of reasons i can see. 1, baseball was more advanced than the country on race relations. 2. black in all white work force was unheard of at the time. 3. a black man being an entertainer outside of musicians, WHOA!

but i do see ur point, i dont see the need to get all emo about it. But then again, i didnt live back then to see the impact 1st hand to actually acknowledge the shit that went on.

I think they remember him of course he was the first black player… and im sure he had to put up with tons of shit from other white players… but he never gave up… and he was a hell of a player… probably run laps around the players today…

But your right too cutty… they should remember other players also… George brett, Nolan ryan… and so and so on…

the 2nd black player came only a few weeks after the first. He should be honored but overdoing it is just as bad as doing nothing, its disrespectful to him.

Don’t get me started on Nolan Ryan…last night during the sox-yanks game rick sutcliff say randy johnson was the most intimidating pitcher ever…I guess he never faced nolan ryan. My uncled playedpro ball for 10 years and he said nolan grunts when he throws those 95+ heaters. guy pitched through 4 decades and he was never on a pitch count and his arm never fell off. These pitchers are treated like sissys and their arms are always hurt.

this thread is very appropriately titled. good job.

no need to sugar coat a turd :bigthumb:
