we’re getting hammered now on “mobile”. mobile this and mobile that… yeah, he’s really behind on his Information Week reading.
lol!
Truth. I was hoping the cloud buzz would go away long ago, it seems here to stay.
Cloud isn’t bad… Just misunderstood.
Cloud is pretty awesome if you use it right. There is a ton it can do such as offloading heavy compute power, stability, etc. but as we seen with Amazon outages, you need to make sure you engineer your solutions correctly.
I have done some consulting work where we setup internal compute clusters and during the day when projects were going on, would auto offload to Azure so people weren’t fighting for their batch jobs to process.
Also, you can really load balance, distribute and build/tear down servers at will without dealing with any hardware costs. This is been big for dev shops and expanded a lot. I cut my personal server fees to 20% just by moving to cloud servers. I get more use and less expenses.
Fun Fact…iCloud runs on Microsoft Azure.
The technology itself isn’t inherently bad, nope.
I had a bunch of Windows application servers and Linux servers running in Azure for a while. They have a good platform. I actually like theirs better than Amazons for production stuff. For dev VPS servers I use, nothing beats Digital Ocean.
