Police were on the prowl this morning for a mountain lion that a passer-by reported in Carrick.

Officers from Pittsburgh and Brentwood have not confirmed the sighting.

Police and city animal control officers were summoned at 8:47 a.m. about the report of a lion seen in the vicinity of Klaus Avenue and Windfall Way.

Animal control advises that anyone who spots the wild animal to stay a safe distance away and notify their office of police.

Uh…no wild mountain lions have been confirmed to exist in Pennsylvania since the 1800s.

Pennsylvania’s last known wild eastern mountain lion was killed in Berks County in 1874. And, except for Florida, the eastern mountain lion is believed to have been extirpated from the East Coast by 1900.
