Moving truck, one way to Ft. Myers FL.

Who’s got the best rates? A friend is taking a trip down to bring a bunch of stuff to furnish his new condo and was quoted $900 from Penske.

Talk to Willybeen, he rented a U-Haul when we went down to Florida

That doesn’t sound bad at all, but if he has a truck or SUV with a hitch he could rent a big enclosed trailer from uhaul for $19.99/day and ride in way more comfort than a moving truck.

just a warning…U-Haul is the cheapest but they will give you an unreliable pile. they serve the purpose for a local move but for a long drive like that I wouldn’t even consider them. I made the mistake of renting U-Haul on my one way trip to Phoenix. the truck had well over 100k miles on it, the shocks were blown, the brakes were shot, the motor was tired and barely made it up hills, and the a/c belt broke in oklahoma in 100+ degree weather. the tow dolly they gave me was so rotted one of the ramps broke off on the trip making it very tricky getting my car off of it. and to top it off that pile cost me like $1200 to rent. I rented penske for my trip back. the truck was brand new and a pleasure to drive. you get what you pay for.

i paid about 600-700 for the truck that spam told me to talk to… there was about another 3-400 in fuel/insurance/etc etc…

It might be cheaper to buy a truck or box van, drive it down, then sell it.

He’s looking into PODS now too.

$900 for the truck + $600 in fuel + you still have to drive it vs a pod and do a round trip flight letting someone else drive it down.

He has an SUV but it’s just an Envoy, it’s a lease, and if he does that he has to drive both ways vs driving a rental truck and flying home. 1400 miles then 1400 miles back is a lot of driving.

I told him he shouldn’t have been so cheap and just bought the shit down there instead of shopping for deals here and then having to move it.
