That motor sucks balls if its the same motor they put in the Envoy. My mom has one and it struggles to pull my 19’ boat. You can hear it weeping under the hood anytime there is strain on it. I’ll stick to the 4.7 V8 in my 03 Durango, it has impressed me more than once. It may be smaller than most SUV’s, but it has never had a problem towing anything. Ive hauled two full size Lincoln Mark VIII’s and the 66 Chevelle with it, and it had no problem. It laughs at the boat, like i insulted it by even hooking it up. But back to the point. The Envoy, with its “great” I6, has made me vow to never own a V6 SUV.
check that last line…inline and v are not the same thing. 275hp/275ft-lbs…thats not bad for a 6…but on what you said…who tows with a six? anyone and everyone i know that tows ANYTHING has an 8…
You mentioned the I6, that what I was talking about. I would never tow anything with a 6 if I didn’t have to, but I used it to move my boat around when my fiance had the dodge a couple times, and it was pretty pathetic. And GM must not agree with you, because the thing came with a towing package…biggest waste of $2000 or whatever the hell they overcharge for useless addons. Not saying your wrong, I just think that the 4200 I6 is crap. I mean, it might be good for gas mileage purposes, but they should stick to putting it in cars and not SUVs, it struggles to even pull the truck up a hill, with nothing on the back of it. Maybe its just cause im used the the V8.
Edit, i meant I6 in that last line of my previous post. actually I will safely say…any 6 for that matter.
i’m not saying this as a jackass…but research the inline six…it won’t even fit into a blazer…there is no way in sam hell that it would fit in a car…it’s one of the deepest motors GM has made. And i’m sure the smart people would have went with the v8 package when it was available on the Trailblazer(don’t know about the envoy…personally i think chevy makes the better looking out of the two)
I’ll be honest and say I have not researched the motor whatsoever, I have no idea what it fits, how big it is, or how much power it has. But driving the Envoy, i can say its weak, and sluggish, and gathering from what you stated, obviously oversized. And i agree the trailblazer is definitely the better looking of the two.
lol oversized? you can’t make an inline anything small unless it’s a 4banger
i don’t know how the envoy was but everytime i’ve taken the TB from my mom it’s hauled ass…and this was her old one which was the I6 on the extended trailblazer…6400lbs…heavy as hell but always hauled ass…she now has a smaller one since chevy discontinued the extended TB…it hauls ass…i could never see it struggling with a 19’ boat, but who knows, i drive a 4banger and can barely get up a damn hill with 4 people in it lol
my moms in an 03 Envoy XL, its the extended one as well…it cruises good on the highway, we took it on vacation last yeat and left her the Durango because of the gas mileage, and it was fine for cruising, but it doesn’t seem to have any get up and go, you have to mash the gas on the floor for it to get going, and going up and down the mountains, it felt like it couldn’t get out of its own way. Beginning of this year, we took the Durango on vacation, and it had no problems going up and down the mountains, we just had to stop three times for gas during a 550 mile trip…lol
lol wow…the two really can’t be compared though…i really don’t know anyone who hauls with a chevy…i usually see fords doing that, save manual labor for the idiots i guess
show me a ford 6 cylinder that ran like solowextreme’s …4.3 ftw
 mine ran like a raped ape for what it had done to it
No, I’m talking about the 4.3L V6 that’s been out for years
I’ve seen them with 300k + on them!
Me too, but not with big problems along the way. Not saying it can’t be done without major problems, but from what I’ve seen the engine had to come apart at some point.
well ya, some will cuz they weren’t maintain or heavily beat on
im saying untouched ones
I had a 1988 ford ranger with the 2.8 v6 in it with 280k+ real hard miles and the valve covers were never off of it.
