This is my first project car. I bought it the day after Christmas this year, for $400.00 from a really cool guy in Brookline. This car started it’s life as a 2.8L 6 banger base model Camaro from the factory. God knows what happened to it from then and now, but I bought it with a crate 350 horribly botched in it. Here are some pic’s of the car from the add, and some I took of the engine bay right after I bought it.
Not sure if this is the 6 banger’s radiator or an 8 one that they installed. Anyone know how to check?
The Power Steering pump that was ghetto-rigged on. Belt doesn’t even stay on it.
The windshield wiper motor, missing it’s cap. It’s jacked up, need a new one.
Okay, my first step was getting the basic bodywork done. It needed new fenders, as I don’t have the ability to save them (Not the best at bodywork.) Also needed new doors, the driver one was dented pretty bad, and the passenger one’s bottom was rusted out. I got new fenders and doors at the Millerstown pick a part. I also needed a new front bumper cover, which I got off of a buddy of my dad’s. It’s the same style as the original one, but more chiseled of a look. I like it a lot. Here’s some pictures:
The engine in the car right now is a hunk of junk. The tranny is also jacked too, so if anyone has a post '89 700R4 for sale, let me know. Here’s the engine that’s going to eventually find itself nested inside the car.
It’s a 4 bolt main 350 bored .30 over. It was in my dad’s half ton about 7 years ago when we pulled it and it’s been sitting since. Gonna give it a fresh rebuild and plop it in. Later down the road when I get a better job, or just money stockpiled I’m gonna build it up to a 383.
My final goals for the car is simple. I just want a mid to low 13 second street car that I can have fun with, and hell, drive to work every now and then. I think I may even be able to do that with just the 355, if I build it up right, but time will tell. Thanks for looking, I’ll keep it updated as I go.
I’m torn between keeping the original burgandy, or going white. I’m deffinatly cleaning up the wiring. Half of it is just dead wires left over from the MPFI computer controls for the V6. I’m stripping the whole thing clean once I pull the GoodWrench crate engine that’s sitting in it right now.
Orr89, I think I’ve seen you around TGO. If you know MW66Nova’s car, the end product is probably going to look something along those lines. Good to know low 13’s should be easy to get with the 355. Money is my only issue here. At 16, I don’t have the best job in the world, lol.
oh yes, i love his car! very nicely done. thats a good look.
And check out Eurodad’s 350 motor for sell in the classifieds. 800 bucks complete and it should put a thirdgen into the low 13’s and probly high 12’s easily.
I saw it, but I don’t have the $800.00 for an engine. I already have a perfectly good 4bolt main 355 sitting in the garage that just needs a rebuild. It’s a 3970010 block, so It’s got some nickel in there making it a strong block, should I ever chose to run some nitrous.
Well, because of THAT happening to my DD, I’ve had to pull out the Camaro from the garage so I can pull my 'bird in and get the front end fixed up. So, to celebrate the first rays of sunlight hitting it in a few months, I took a few pictures. Keep in mind, the hood is just set on, and there’s a shit ton of orange peel on both the hood and the rest of the car (That’s what that crackely stuff is.). On to the pictures!
Whew, I got a shit-ton of work still to do, lol.
You can see the one new fender (An addition). I got it back from my buddy Kam who’s doing the major body work. Should have the passenger fender with shaved antenna after the next nice day.
Here’s a picture of our family’s F-Bodies. I swear to god none of us have mullets:
