My '49 Chevy Pickup Project - PICS

Well I’ve been slowly making progress and got a few more pics. I now have the firewall painted, the cab mounted, and the doors almost fitted. Once I finish that, the entire cab can go for paint. The cab and box are going to be yellow with black interior, black fenders & runningboards and black pinstriping. Should look like a big bumblebee

Note the size of the rearend housing in this pic. Chevy used Eaton rear axles in the 3/4 ton and heavier trucks

I want this! sooner or later i’ll get to build mine

Awesome truck and big thumbs up to Wizard Cooling.
Wizard Cooling built a massive cooling system for my brother-in-law’s car.

very cool project man

ooo i remember now, i came to you and looked at that rolling chassis, nice work man.

reminds me of my dads old 52 chevy. lifted up, huge tires, built motor… the thing screamed. he sold it when i was a little kid :frowning: rear bumper read “Save the whales, Kill the deer” the thing was a BEAST

UPDATE!
With the nice weather I’ve been able to start working on the truck again. This past winter I spent damn near every nickel I made on truck parts.
Here’s a pic of the front clip installed for the first time. It’s hard to tell but I also have the doors on it too.
EDIT: Apparently only the driver’s door is on for the pic. The passenger door went on shortly afterward. The doors still need some serious attention to make them fit right, but the clip is coming along nice. The bed is done, I just need to drill the holes in the bedsides for the rear fender bolts. I have a tiny bit of interior metalwork to do, but the whole thing is almost ready for paint…finally. It finally seems to be coming together…

Looks great!

However, that firewall is like swiss cheese. How many of those holes are really necessary. It may be too late but Id fill any that arent absolutely necessary. But thats just me.

Dan

I remeber reading an artical in of all places a Buick magizine about a guy that put a turbo on a chevy 250ci straight six, man that thing was potent.
Put a turbo on that thing and do 5 mile burn outs !!

All the holes in the firewall are factory. They actually all have a purpose. And yes, being yellow, it does look like swiss cheese.

mad props, awesome project:pimp:

i thought swiss cheese was white???

not when its from 1949 …

sweet build man. i love OG pickups

havent you ever seen tom and jerry??

all cheese is yellow and has holes in it.

Sooooooo cooool  I absolutely love how the engine turned out.

Beautiful looking truck. I’ve always liked these style Trucks.

Are you updating the interior (Seats, Door Panels, Gauge Cluster, Radio, etc…) or leaving is as nostalgic as possible?

nice build im guessing your keeping it yellow…i was always looking for a project truck maybe a 57 chevy those old motors are just so easy to work on it kinda makes me cry when owrking on todays plastic messes of motors…good luck with the build

Update! She’s FINALLY at the shop for paint…FINALLY… I never thought it would happen. I spent all last summer/fall building my house so the truck got put on hold for awhile. We have to block it/wetsand one more time, then it’s ready for color. What a mofo it is trying to get something with this many curves to look right. Anyway, should have some pics up in the next few days.
