MY NC trip and Goodyear tire story.

So recently I took a trip down to NC (cherlette/Huntersville) with 4 people I took the evo that I just put back on the road, I know it was going to need new tires but I figured it could wait till I got back. (I had 14k on the OEM tires)

On the way down some where in PA at 11:45pm I hit a peace of metal in the road and took a chunk of rubber out of a front tire and trash a rear.
So I pulled off the road and took all the crap out of the trunk pulled the donut put it on and inspected the front (still holding air).
Figured at this point/Time there was no way of getting a new tire, so I drove at 55-60 all the way down, some where in WV I heard peaces of the front tire coming off. But amazingly I made it to the friends house I was staying at.
As soon as I got there Sat AM new years weekend I asked if they had a place I could get tires. so they where unsure but he said there was a Good year around the corner that was open. I went there they said they had my tire in stock for 170 a peace. ouch. and offered me the road hazered,(normaly I dont get that kind of crap couse Im cheap) But becouse I had just had a bad expereance and I had my faimly with me for the ride home I didnt want to go threw that again I said fine.

So I have my trip down there I try to keep from driving my car too much.

On the trip home I get about 2 hours in and it feels like the car is pulling right, so I get off at the next exit pull into a gas station and check over the car, sure enought the passanger front tire is almost FLAT
, so I put air in it and continue, ever couple hours I have to do the same thing. but I make it home. Park the car and drive the GTI.

Today after work I went filled the tire and drove it to the Sheirdon Goodyear store. one woman working. takes my info, wait an hour, and they allow me to pull my car in. sure enought it had a rim leak, but I Trashed the tire driving on it flat apprently. so they said they would see about replacing it. but they told me no one has the tire in stock so they put my donut on AGAIN (thats over 600 mile Ive drivin on the stupid thing) and told me they would call me if they find one.

END OF RANT.

Clifs. Shreaded tire on trip to NC got new tire not mounted correctly flat on trip home. Goodyear dont have tire instock here.

so what kind of tire do you have on the car??

it happends man no one carrys 17s and 18s in stock normally (except for my store but they just sit and collect dust) i bet the goodyear down there special ordered those tires and had the customer back out.

nope they had 8 instock ( of the eagle somthing 2 all-seasons that I got). and offer 2 kinds. (they had another more sporty kind)

Its just a ritzy town (huntersville) evey one down there drives a sports car.

I know it jsut sucks that I cant drive my car and the inspections up and now I cant get it inspected.

Update.
They finally called me Sat (1/13) told me they got my tire in.
As I was unable to get over there sat I went today (1/15) went in and I was told they could mount it for me it would be $30. I flipped out, they mounted the stupid tire wrong in NC that’s why I was losing air why should I have to pay for Mounting/ and a NEW road hazard warranty. I already spent close to 1000 on tires.

they told me I could talk to Kathy who was dealing with my case but shes not in till tomorrow so IM STILL DRIVNG ON MY DONUT this is ridiculise.

END of RANT.

Goodyear sucks. Looks like they’re losing another customer. Welcome to the club.

you cant really mount a tire wrong…unless they didnt clean the wheel before placing the tire on it…maybe i missed it, but i didn’t see how you hitting something in the road turned into it being goodyears fault…is your WHEEL cracked and losing air? b/c thats possible too

$30 for mounting/balance is a bit rediculous, but yes you have to pay for a new RH, b/c your existing roadhazard only covers ONE tire, in particular the one you destroyed, so you shouldn’t have paid full price for a new tire.

HOWEVER, do realize that mounting and balancing does cost a store money. just b/c you paid for mount and balance in NC does not excuse you from mounting and balancing a new tire that you somehow destroyed. should they cut you some slack, probably since you did recently buy the tires from what i am assuming is a corporate owned goodyear store. BUT, that is completely up to each individual store. the road hazard is nationwide, but they do NOT have to care that you recently had the tire put on. that is something you would have to take up with the NC store since they apparently “mis-installed” your tire

good luck with cathy, i doubt she’ll budge an inch…but good luck…

edit found the part with the rim leak, that does suck and that is the responsibility of that store in NC for not cleaning the wheel prior to new tire. HOWEVER, do realize too that the rim leak could have started from driving on it flat…while the rim leak might be most apparent, there could still be a small hole in the tire or a crack in the wheel…

Really? I thought Goodyear was a corporate chain. So if somebody slips on a wet floor at Micky D’s, the store the slip happened in is the only liable party in the whole corporation? Or is the person that slipped on the floor gonna find the corporation liable? Goodyear is a corporate chain, they are just as liable at one store here to repair the mistake Goodyear made anywhere else. If they would have mounted it properly in the first place this never would have happened.

fuck tires and wheels that don’t work together to hold air.

and fuck people who suck at avoiding big chunks of metal in the road.

AND fuck people who misspell CHARLOTTE, PIECE (3x), WERE, HAZARD, CAUSE’, BECAUSE, EXPERIENCE, FAMILY, THROUGH, PASSENGER, SHERIDAN.

That right there is amazing^ for advans.

Sounds Like you had a fun trip LOL.

Don’t forget RIDICULOUS, APPARENTLY, NORMALLY, SHREDDED, and ENOUGH.

it all depends. he says he went to a goodyear, but in reality theres a million independent shops around the country that carry the goodyear flag and signs that are NOT corporate owned, and thus the warranties aren’t there. he never answered my question from before whether it was GOODYEAR AUTO SERVICE CENTER or Joe Schmo’s Goodyear

that sucks

fuck that shit.

next time order tires online and have them installed at hybird or something.

Sorry, I didnt see you asked. But yes it was a corprate owened Goodyear in NC.

P.S. Sorry about the spelling. 1. I Suck. 2. Im on the work computer (no google spell check bar)

And there was still a decent amount of rubber on them. (can only make me think the previse owner wasn’t vary hard on the car…)

even if it is a corporate owned store, you arent going to get much out of the deal. granted, goodyear is already absorbing the tire under the road hazard, but no matter what, the road hazard you bought for the tire that was shredded is used to get you a brand new TIRE at no charge. you could (if you wanted) decline the RH on the new tire and save yourself some $$$, but then you run the same situation.

i know it looks shitty that it gets absorbed, but it all goes through registration numbers. and even though the tire went flat from a rim leak, the damage to the inside of the tire is from being driven on flat, thus a road hazard…go figure…

as far as them absorbing the cost of balancing (they should NOT be charging you for the mount btw since it is a RH adjustment, but they can since its not laid out in any guidelines or anything), its a case by case scenario. if it was me, usually i would find a way to let it slide since yeah, you did just buy the tires. but with ray and cathy, well, good luck :stuck_out_tongue:

You need a spell check to spell the name of a popular US city correctly???

I guess #1 really is true.

lol. + karma…

So Goodyear got close to $1000 bucks of his money, including paying extra for their warranty thing. His new tire doesn’t hold air, and he still has to pay for mounting? Maybe it is his wheel’s fault, but the Goodyear in NC should have caught it. I don’t care what their corporate structure is or what the fine print on the road hazard says. That’s piss poor customer service.

Thanks for reaffirming my belief that Goodyear is a shady shitty company.
