it’s the rider, not the bike. the more expensive bikes will be a little bit lighter and have better brakes and shifters, but if you are just getting back into it, go buy a cheapo mongoose from toys r us and see if you like it.
I could do everything on my $99 dunhams bike than I can do on my $500 trek bike. The trek is lighter and easier to shift though.
