My Solo Seat Cowl Project...

For those of you that don’t know me, I recently lost my solo seat cowl on my bike…long story short it came unlatched and flew off on the 198. Ugh.

I lost my favorite hat in the process but luckily for me I was able to recover it

What pissed me off:

1- The passenger seat looks lame.
2- Solo seat cowls are $100 on ebay

Anyways, thanks to Paulo and Tim for finding this for me! I got it for a steal on Craiglist for $50

On to the project…

What I started with:

2003-2004 Kawi Green Solo Seat Cowl (Craigslist picture)

First Step: Sand Down original paint with 220 and 320 grit sand paper

Step Two: Spray down 2 coats of Filler Primer, sanding with 320 grit in between coats

Step Three: Spay 1 final coat of Filler Primer, sanding with 600 grit after

Step Four: Spray 4 coats of Galaxy Silver Metallic, sanded with a progression of 800, 1000 and 1500 grit sand paper in between coats. I then sprayed 4 coats of enamel clear on it, wet sanding with 2000 grit after letting dry for a night.

BACK TO NORMAL! And cost me way less than I would’ve spent on buying a new one. Overall I’m happy with how it turned out, not too shabby for an overnight DIY project

Looks siqqq!!

n0ice

i need a cowl myself =(

looks good… make sure it stays on this time. also how much time did you invest? lol. if you say 5 hours… im going to lol.

Haha naw I spent about 20 mins last night and about an hour today all together

Nice. Looks pretty good.

Sweet… it matches perfect?

I hope i never hurt mine… they wont know what color to match… aww it’ll never work.

Really?

It’s an exact match, I found a can if galaxy silver at hobbytown, it was for Kawasaki models

lol… all to save like what… 100-(50 cowl)- (labor) - (sandpaper) - (paint) … so what… 30 bucks… assuming you work for 3 dollars an hour… <3…

just saying…

Love you.

I actually only spent 10 bucks extra from the cowl itself, I had all the other material in my basement from when I painted my interior on the eclipse…lmao

EDIT: <3 willybeen

sweet, even if it took me 5 hours id still be all about the DIY’r job just cuz!

lol

Looks killer.

Nice job. Your hat must have gotten in the way when you went to clamp the cowl down. I still miss this bike so much. Still looks great.
