Project: FOOSE experiement: winter beater with style

a while ago i picked up matty’s (lucky) 92 civic hatch
looked like a pile of shit, with the worst flat black paint job i have ever seen.
so i did some, key word some, obviously not enough body work and decided to do a full “foose inspired” 2 tone paint job.

i shaved the emblems, side moldings, and molded hte skirts into the body, all with a lot of bondo!

yes i know it needs to be lowered so please dont tell me that again.
i think im going to tint the taillights as well with that shit from ct

heres the short story

for about 150 bucks i think it turned out pretty well
i am lookin for 15 or 16 inch wheels for VERY CHEAP if anyone has some that will fit.

Let me knwo what you guys think
thanks
Derek

Damn man. You did an amazing job!!! The car looks like it has a professional paint job! How many coats of primer, paint and clear did you use?

1 very thin coat of primer from spray bombs
that was the biggest mistake
i should have done 3 or 4 from the gun/compressor

3 coats of each color
followed by a wesand (thanks pavel)

and 3 coats of clear.
it still needs to be wetsanded, buffed, and waxed

WOW!

Good job… i have 15" rims with bald winters for dirt cheap if you want… and i mean dirt cheap

pm me pics and a price please

nice d-rock. looking pimp

it turned out so nice!

Where did you do that??

Hahaha how much to paint my beater??

Nice job! Also, nice job on converting your garage into a paint booth …how did you not suffocate? And nice job of product placement with the LCBO bag.

Would you have any extreme closeups of the paint surface? It looks pretty damn smooth from that distance.

i have 16" 5 stars with decent rubber and brand new tokico blues with either rennsport springs or eibach sportlines.

all for EG.

that looks pretty awesome man.

ya but you still cant see anyhitng
there is some dust that landed in the paint, but its hardly notivable
and the finish has less texture than my s13 with a factory paint job.

ill pay you to paint my car, im serious aha as long as its cheap

haha
its getting too cold to paint now.
when i do my s13 it going to be like 30 degrees in the garage
its not that hard to do.
we learnd a lot of lessons for next time

and if you look in the pics you can see the filters in the garage door and side door, with fans clearing the paint
we also used proper masks, and gogles

Wow that car was brought back to life. Good job, it looks great and the fact that you did it so cheap is awesome.

Dude thats awsome, i will also pay you to pay my car when it warms up.

Looks awsome man.

Man, that looks amazing!

Can you break down what you did exactly? I’ve tried some monster garage bodywork myself…but it looks like doo doo compared to that.

Looks awesome man.

i had to cut the rust out and rivit in new metal

i spent hours and hours stripping down teh flat black, which decided to melt off when sanded, which made it a lot more fun.

did the required bondo work.

sanded everything with 320 cause i couldnt find any 400 grit discs

then i sprayed everything with a candy color from a spray bomb to see there the bad spots were, so i could attempt to fix them.

sprayed primer

wet sanded with 600 grit

made the 2 tone line adn sprayed hte blue
3 coats

then same with the black

then pavel and i wetsanded for a few hours

then i did 3 coats of clear, put the pinstrip on to cover the 2 tone line, and waxed it.
very simple , straight forward

we used a gravity feed gun and a 30 galon compressor with a water trap

Did you wetsand between any of the paint coats? clear coats?

Or did you spray subsequent coats on wet?

nope, we only sanded between color and clear
and used a 30 minute flash time between coats

and before he gets too pissed off my neighbour helped with the paint job, we both learned how to do it properly so we can paint out summer cars next season.

and thanks to pavel for coming over to the wet sanding party we threw.

and matty for being kind enough to con me into taking the POS away from him.

I’d also be willing to pay for a paint jon when it gets warmer  . You should start a painting business lol.
