thx for the look, all comments welcomed.

Wow looks very nice…

Could you give us more details on the bodywork/paint process including
materials and steps?

Wow… That looks hella sexy. I love the colour too. Amazing work, details would be much appreciated.

how much did a paintjob like that cost?

looks amazing!

the paintjob (this is a shocker) only cost me $900 including all the bodywork that was done in the process. after I bought the car it went directly to Paul Roy at Clarke Road secondary in London, who did an excellent job organizing his class and putting so much time and quality in to my car. unfortunately (iquabob and solarian) I do not know too indepth of what exactly they did, materials etc… but I’ll write up what I do know and possibly try to get those answers later for you (as i’d like to know too).
I didnt even get to see the car much over the winter since I was working full time and in College full time, it was one of many class projects* where they did lots of sanding, buffing, welding (to remove rust and make the 89/90 fenders flow with the 92’ bumper) also, they cut out pieces of metal to fill the doorhandles and shaped it to match the bodyline of the car then used a high-grade epoxy ($60) to glue them into place. I bought door poppers for $150 and had them installed (lambo doors on way, only $600 for both at a place here in London)
as for the paintjob, if you look at the link above (there is 2 pages of pics) you can see more pics of the car in primer, base coat, and the finished product in 2002 BMW LeMans Blue Metallic. if you are very curious, want some more pics or just want to chat feel free to hit me up on msn (cale_rich@hotmail.com)
*the school charges a flat rate to cover material costs and whatever they make off that (by getting the paint at a lower cost because they are a school) goes into the program. (my dad is also a shop teacher at this school so I think that helped speed things up as it usually takes a longer time)
people are usually skepical when i say my car was painted at a highschool… but in reality, they are teaching the students how to do the job RIGHT the first time so they can be useful in the workplace and both this car and my parents car (96’ mazda mx6) are proof that there is lots of talent out there at young ages.

hope that somewhat covers a bit of your question… since i didnt do the work myself (would have loved to with professional help) I dont really know exactly what grit of sandpaper was used, etc etc… they have lots of air tools as you can see in most of the pics the little stations on the walls and i think i’ll be able to get a write-up of the paint process… maybe have a student write up a DIY for “bonus marks” and as i said, msn me for all the pics, or i may just upload them all to that photobucket account if needed depending on feedback/requests.

Thanks for the support SON! suggestions always welcome.
8)

fyi: its a stock KA under the hood.

Looks hot.

I recently had my car painted and it looks like the guy did it with a roller.

I just soiled my pants.

Ridiculously clean.

Shaved door handles pwn joo. I didn’t even notice at first.

Looks really nice.

EDIT:

This basecoat by itself looks amazing. I should take my car in and just ask for a basecoat like it.

Damn, that looks amazing man! Is the school looking for another project to tackle?? lol.

the color looks awsome post pics with the wheels and all back together soon. also not to get off topic but you said you found lambo doors for your car. where in london did you find them and are they made for the S13 bolt on? or are they a universial kit
brent

That looks hot man, altho im not a big fan of shaved door handles looks like u did it right and it flows really well with the car… Cant wait to see the finished pics.

thx, thx.

I am trying to get it finished asap and will take pics the day i get to drive it.

there isnt time now to get anymore cars into the school as they only have 2 months left and their hands are already full. maybe next year :stuck_out_tongue: but it takes from a long time to a very long time to get a car through.

I dont know all the details of the lambo kit because its through a friend of a friend deal. All i know is its fully automatic, requires no mess and im getting an amazing deal.

looking forward to seeing your cars too.

well there goes my idea

I like the colour, that’s a nice blue, good job man.

sick paint job. So the only way to get painted for that much is through hookups or can anyone go there and get it done?

Looks like a flat BMW Laguna Seca Blue, I love that colour. Of course, I like the final colour as well, nice choice.

What’s great is there are satin clear coats on the market now. So you can have a professional quality satin or flat paintjob.
