Making my own thread to not clutter other threads about other peoples cars and to get better feedback on mine…ect ,anyways this is what ive run for the last 2 seasons in S13 various drift events track days and drive on the streets…
Reading through some set ups got me thinking about mine,
as it sits now i am still on the old school way of Springs and shocks:|
my S13 car is set up like this:
Eibach Pro Kit springs
(witch i find to be much stiffer then say the prokit or tein springs on a friends S13 yes did sit a bit lower but he let me drive his car and it seem to have way more roll in the body then mine did as if they were softer…dident feel as nice thats for sure)
KYB GR2 shocks
front and rear strut bars
16KG rims (lightweight?)
federal tires 595 & 395 (burn them up to much to buy expensive tires :P)
I realize this is a pretty basic set up anyone can get pretty easily been great so far but I want coilovers…eventually.
but other then that i dunno what elese i should upgrade…i could do tie rods ect…mine on the car are fine right now…but when the times comes ill replace with thicker ones i guess…i just dunno how that will help other then durability…my car actally still has the working HICAS system too even though i use the car to drift doesnt seem to affect anything really anyways any ideas on what i should do next would be great.
forgot to say …had this set up pretty much since ive had the car…and i have been really happy with it its stiff and i know how to work it really well so not even sure if theres a huge need for an upgrade to coilovers this year…i have blow 2 shocks so far though been ok to replace but i hate when i have to replace the shocks…it annoys me haha
If you like the setup, thats whats important. If it feels good thats good. But I’m sure you’d like some more feel to it.
If you’re into drifting, which I know you are, you might want to try some Hard tie rod ends, teamed with TC rods to help really stiffen up your front end. A front power brace would be a good option too. The really important thing to have for drifting in terms of suspension, is a responsive front end, and very very tight rear end. So in the rear, i’d suggest going with some RUCA and toe arms and that alone should solidify your rear end. Along with some aluminum bushings for the subframe and you won’t feel that slop when entering a corner.
Another thing you can do to tighten up your front end is replace the oem steering rack bushings with some polyurethane ones from Nismo. This will improve turn in on corner entry greatly and improve daily feel of the steering rack.
Oh, you might also want to invest in some better struts and GR2, they are meant as OEM replacement. Id suggest selling your setup for 100-150, whatever its worth, and picking up some AGX’s if you dont want to spring for coils yet. There is a set on SON for 250 with H&R springs.
A proper alignment at a good shop will do wonders. And above all that, keep your alignment settings close to stock. you may want to adjust camber with some RUCA’s or pillowball upper mounts that you can (i believe) attach onto KYB’s.
The reason for the near OE alignment is to stiffen up your settings, and when lowering a car those settings change, so to retain the OE settings on a dropped car is a definite plus.
Nice, alot of the things you said are things i had in my mind but never really knew what do to first… anyways just knew about them the alumnum bushing though i never really liked the idea and heard from people who did them are to hard.ide do to poly bushings though one day when i tkae down the subframe and powder it …power brace i forgot about those…now i have some ideas for sure new tie rods,TC ect sounds like the next thing i should do once mine wearout
i have all the alinment set up for my car on a print out…camber…caster …everything to do with alignment i get it done at the begining of the year each season to insure a good ride…not sure what some of the readings mean but i got em maybe i should post them lol
thanks for the imput
i do like my setup though even though it not crazy or anything it beats other cars with similar set ups somehow…i think it has alot to do with the stiffness of the springs the pro kit though …friends get in my car and love it …espicslly transfering while drifting it just feels right to me rather then there cars with tein springs.
Ive always wanted ot change the bushings, never knew where to buy a kit (nissan?) or go with something aftermarket do i have to unbolt the subframe to get to all the bushings? a bushing kit is something cheap and easy(i hope) that i could do right away.
cars got 315,000on it not 350,000 never tell by looking though anyways here is the print out i got for my car back last year alignment ect… some stuff i dont understand on it though maybe some fo you do…
yeah suspention can be done without breaking the bank easily. with the exception of 1500$ coilovers…all the rest of the peices are not that much just do 1 thing at a time…anyways i think i have a good idea of what i want to improve on…if anyone wants to desifer that diagram be my guest, lol.
If you think $1500 coilovers are expensive… then you haven’t seen my TC Klines race shocks and Nismo T2 SCCA springs :). $3000 worth right there for springs and shocks, not coilovers.
It’s my belief that you shouldn’t budget on suspension. Getting the best out there is well worth it more than building an engine to 300whp. I’ve seen cars smoke me on straight, but when it cames to corners, they were doomed.
I decided on stance coils…just have to save for them…front and rear aftermarket sway bars too should help…with these things i hope to elimnate alot of body roll probems.
