Mythbusters - Anyone see something that will stop 6000 page threads?

In my opinion, your brain is about as valuable as the protein submarine I sent off to sea this morning.

god this made me laugh for a solid two minutes

the reason it WOULD take off in actuality is that the treadmill can’t / won’t “match” it’s speed

LOL… WHAT?

this question makes me hate people. a lot. or is it the nys education system.

I got to page 3, albeit a bit late, and I couldn’t take any more.

There are some seriously fucking retarded people on here.

So its gonna take off right?

or is the treadmill not moving…

now what if the treadmill was going with the plane… and the wind was blowing with it too… that would be more speed would it take off…

If the plane had its brakes on and the tires blew up? or if the Pilot was fat…

the plane should take off but those two seem to have a lot of error on their show weither it be human or variable so it may not take off because they do something wrong

http://www.nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39169

ive read the first thread, prob posted in it, and i cant recall if i said it would or it wouldnt.

ive read ~half of this thread, and still dont have a concrete opinion.

physics and math is NOT my thing by ANY MEANS.

but, i have a question… If the plane, in theory according to some of you, will take off, then why do planes need wings to fly? the way im understanding it (and correct me if im wrong) is that a plane needs air moving over the wings to create lift. SO, to the people saying that it will take off, shouldnt a plane be able to fly without wings according to your theory? and if the treadmill is going “backwards” to counteract the plane going forwards, how would the wheels of the plane spin without some kind of opposite force pushing the plane the opposite way as the treadmill is going? wouldnt the treadmill just move the whole plane backwards?

i know i should refer to Fry’s sig before posting, but i honestly dont really understand this so someone feel free to explain it to me and tell me im completely wrong, because i really would like to understand it lol

i hate to make this connection, but maybe you are biased about the laws of physics. maybe the laws of physics dont like you. and in their opinion you suck. and thats why the laws have decided to act differently on you and thats why you are a slower evo driver? physics has it out for your evo?

No dude, he’s right. This one time, I tripped and fell UP the stairs. It was pretty silly.

I’m really thankful for all the “it will not take off” 'ers in this thread.

Thanks, assholes.

the way i looked at it was if speed over ground = 0 there would be no lift generated, as no air would move across the wings… however… i now realize that even if wheel speed matched treadmill speed… the plane would move and lift

lol

and thread revival with planes not needing wings. i actually have work to do today though dammit

sustainability.

The wings wont make it take off from a dead stop, only keep it afloat. The engines pushing against the air, not the treadmill, will make it move forward.

Its cause the planes look cool with wings. there are a huge copyright debate when the wright brothers we’re making their first plane… It looked too much like the model T so they tossed some wings on it to make it look different…

the wings have nothing to do with it flying

Yeah its just a fashion statement that has not gone out yet thats all.

:poke:

I feel dumber having read this thread.

eh ill post in both threads just to spark more conversation but if you go to the gym and run on a treadmill I dont feel the wind pass over me like I do running outside. Hence, the plane will NOT take off because my model was perfect. /thread

[quote=“newman,post:93,topic:37377"”]

i really think the logic of the idiots is that since a person running on a treadmill doesn’t move forward, then a plane on a treadmill is also incapable of moving forward…
