My step father went through a nasty divorce just like you. His ex wife was cheating for awhile, but he couldn’t prove it, so he hired a PI. He had pictures, phone recordings, etc, but his wife still got just about eveything such as the house, kids, child support. Not sure about alimony, but he did end up with the dining room furniture and a gaping asshole.

It always makes me sick to think what women get away with when they divorce. I did not want to get married, but it happened. I don’t regret it, but it scares me every day to think about it, especially since we have a little one on the way.

We’re going to end up just doing a no-fault uncontested divorce, and her sister is a paralegal so we’ll have have her do all the paperwork and filing. Should be quick, but obviously not painless

Sucks man. I was with my ex for 7 years, lived with her for 3 (supported her ass, she paid no rent, basically no living costs) and then 9 months before we were supposed to get married I found out she was fucking some receptionist douche bag at her job.

Saved me the biggest headache in my life. I think it would take a while before I even think about marriage again.

ok listen to me…in the GREAT state of NY, the court systems dont really care if your going to cheat. this wont have any effect on how much u get or dont get unless there is some sort of evidence of harming the children or something substantial like this.

lets just say if he had pictures, then what? ill tell u then what. he would be able to file for a divorce with a cause. yippy! with the new law signed he will be able to file in a few weeks with a cause of irreconcilable differences. because she is cheating on him wont do much in terms of what they own and custody. 99.9% of the time, the mother will win in 2/3 to 3/4 of the custody unless there is a good reason for the father to win.

not only that im not sure u understand the cost of lawyer fees. so lets say he did hire an investigator. thats a couple thousand that he will have to pay upfront. then what, 5-15k more for lawyer fees?

This is an old thread i started, but i figured it was worth updating. As of october 16th 2012 i was officially divorced. Took over 2 years, total in attorney fees was only $1400, which isnt terrible really. I pay a lot in child support now, which sucks because i have them almost half the time anyway.

The ex is still a skank and an absolutely horrible and disgusting person. I still hate her for what she did, but im working on that. I once confronted him, but never went further than that. Neither have ever apologized.

It took me a long time to come to terms with everything, but at the end of the day the fact is she made me miserable for a long long time and im way happier now that i ever could have been with her. So its whatever. I’d still like to knock his teeth out one day if it didnt mean going to jail.

Oh well.

Once again the marriage system total fucks over a man. At least you are doing better, had this happened to me with a guy living near by I would not have your level of restraint.
