Need help "updating" windows service pack

trying to open aemTuner on my laptop i just purchased. it worked on my others windows7 laptop no problem at all. i try to install the 3.5 SP1 that is required to run a long side the program and it does not work.

this is the message i get when trying to open aemtuner:

the application has failed to start because it’s side-by-side configuration is incorrect. please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more details (idk wtf this means?)

so i download the service pack because i believe this is what it is referring to and it says " you must use “turn windows features on or off” in the control panel to install or configure microsoft .net framework 3.5 sp1 .

tried this (checked both boxes?) still doesnt install correctly

i am also certain windows 7 comes with this update by default but why won’t it work?

Did you try rebooting after you checked the boxes before installing again?

whats the event log say?

i dont know what the event log is. online it told me to to do that too but it didn’t actually explain how to find it.

i rebooted and still does not work

Windows 7 should come with .NET framework 3.5. Without even googling your issue what I would do is run the dotnet cleanup tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-90-44-93/dotnetfx_5F00_cleanup_5F00_tool.zip

Then I would reinstall .NET 3.5 SP1 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25150

i did that, and this is the error i get everytime

Just throwing these out there because of issues I’ve seen with windows 7 installs…

try turning off UAC (user access controls) under control panel -->user accounts–>change user account controls and turn them down all the way. Reboot then when installing, right click on the installer and select the option for troubleshoot compatibility. Then run the recommended settings. If that doesn’t work, you can always try to uninstall all the versions of .net, then reboot and install the newest version (4.0) or something…

just did all of that. then deleted aem tuner and reinstalled and rebooted. still says the same error :frowning:

Try the 2.97 version of the AEM Software.

You will need to get .net installed and updated (3.5), though I am not sure why it is giving you problems installing. Have you tried installing items through windows update in the control panel?

Also, give this a shot, it might help, might not.
