Need some trim color ideas/options

yea, i have to figure out where to get it. i plan on using 3m super adhesive to have it stick. im guessing i wont need much because the trim is snapped and screwed into place so that will help secure the alcantara or suede. im just worried i wont be able to find something stretchy enough? can Lafengas chime in on maybe where he got his?

jo ann fabrics etc?

Yea that looks good…

What about wrapping it in 3M Di-Noc?

Alcantra is the best stuff to use, but it’s expensive and hard to find.

You can get similar material at fabric stores, but it might fade in the sun.

IMO, the seude is the way to go. It keeps the specialty look of the interior without going for the “sporty” carbon fiber look.

If yours is going to come out textured like this, then I think it looks great. However, without the texture, it’s just a boring black surface.

You need to buy alcantara. The fabric store shit will be rotted by the sun in a year. Alcantara is something like 200 dollars a yard.

yea i see this now, its super hard to get too. the only parts ill be able to wrap in it are the ones in the pictures that are wrapped. the door handles and steering wheel trim i will just paint satin black because with the curves i wont be able to wrap them.

i might just take my chances with some stuff from joann fabrics. the fabric wont really be in the sun almost ever because of where it is on the dash.

Why not just buy the brushed aluminum pieces?

you can’t replicate the the ZCP/cube trims color as it is the actually a real aluminum piece, not painted and machined that way.

You can also wrap EVERY trim piece in the whole car, many people do.

You CAN suede wrap the curved pieces but it takes som finessing to get it to be seemless. It’s not impossible though.

I used some of it on a shift knob that’s been in my GARAGE and it’s faded on the side that faces away from the wall. You don’t want to do this twice.

It’s a 20,000 dollar car that you paid cash with. Do it right and get the right shit.

I agree with Newman, plus there are no hotties at Joanne Fabrics, so the trip is a total bust.

i think these pieces look odd when wrapped as they usually end up looking too “thick”

not really a fan of spray painting trim either. bc/cc that shit and buff to smooth as glass finish. would look awesome.

im painting my trim black/white plaid to match the shiftboot/decklid/pillars/etc that i started recovering. hopefully i can figure out how to use an airbrush soon. im getting sick of the woodgrain.

If the Joanne fabric stuff would last even a year, it’d be worth it to re-wrap once a year, but if it’s gonna look like shit in a few months then just get the good stuff.

i completely agree.

i went to autozone and i actually found a paint that matched the color i already had 100% perfectly. so i sprayed the pieces that i do not want to wrap in alcantara and left the 3 pieces that i do the regular color. the three pieces that i will wrap im just going to put back in the car until the real stuff comes in as they pop out in 3 seconds unlike the door trim.

i will post some pictures soon as they are drying

Didn’t jeller do a big writeup on wrapping e46 interior trim a while back?

IMO all black doesn’t look the best. I love the idea of piano black, but it needs some contrast. IMO good (real) aluminum or something similar is best. The horrid fake stuff in lots of cars sucks. Painting will look… painted. This isn’t your first car.

well the pictures below didnt come out best but anyone that has been in my car previous to this will tell you how chipped, bubbled and shitty the pieces looked. i painted every trim piece and took pictures of the pieces that looked horrid before. i also painted the 3 pieces that i will soon wrap in alcantara but for now until it comes in they match and look stock. the color i got from auto zone is a perfect match to titanium shadow trim which is what it was. i am very happy with the results.

I think Jeller’s car is/was an e90/e92

I meant xander… or someone… someone did it. I’ll find it.

That was more difficult than it needed to be.

The paint looks fine in the pictures, just doesn’t seem like a great long term solution.

meh maybe not idk well see how it holds up. his finished product looked good. what i did though was very simple and easy. for now im sticking with it. i will probably wrap it all in the alcantara or maybe some carbon wrap or maybe just fork over the cash sometime and get the brushed aluminum trim. well see
