Got dinged by the town, need to replace a grand total of 1 sidewalk slab. Big job, I know. I lack the experience, tools, and most importantly the time to do it before I’ll get fined, and there is nearly an entire block of houses that have at least 1 slab to replace. I dont have the time to be your sales guy, but anyone interested in making it easy on us lazy people would clean up and probably have at least 30 slabs.
If anyone knows someone who can do this fairly immediately, or wants to do it on the side, let me know.
OR
I was told to replace this - what are the odds I can just patch some concrete to the raised edge and get away with it?
Might be able to just jack it up, dig out some dirt from underneath then let it back down. If you don’t want to replace it, that is, looks like it’s in good shape overall.
Don’t waste your time with the skim coat crap trying to build a ramp to remove the trip hazard. Jackass around the corner from me does that and very few years he gets tagged again because it doesn’t last more than 2 years.
I assume in the notice the town included a price per slab and recommended contractor? That’s how they do it here in Amherst and the rate honestly wasn’t bad. A bunch of people on the street over got together and got a better group rate from a guy though, just don’t remember who.
When Amherst tagged my street a bunch of concrete guys started flyering the neighborhood. Ended up getting one that did most of the street for $80 a block. Believe the name was Mario Campanella.
I wish! They said they couldnt recommend one over the other and didnt provide any pricing. I’ve been on the road for 3 weeks with no real end in sight and i just dont have the time to think about this.
if you’re going to try to band-aid the heaved edge, use a polymer or vinyl based product. Amherst are dicks about the sidewalks as they make the homeowner 100% responsible for the cost, in Cheektowaga its 60%…so one block ends up costing the homeowner $72 all-in without having to deal with anything vs. Joe’s mentioned $80/block and having to search out someone that will beat the town rates.
Same guy came to our neighborhood in Williamsville and did the same thing. Pretty good work, except he left a few roots which were 6 feet long and the diameter of a basketball on my lawn. He eventually picked them up but I had to call him three times. He acted astonished that I wanted them off my lawn.
