I have pre registered. This is a cheap track day guys hop on it.
Also a side note on tires. Azenis 615k are on closeout on tire rack. Fantastic deals on some tires i really enjoyed last time i had them. I paid just around 160 each for 275 35 18 for my audi a8 track machine
That is why i have r comps for roadcourse but these as street tires. My slicks are getting pretty low on tread. I am not sure if they will make it for the entire 2 days. We will find out. I like the azenis on the street, they work on the track but are far from ideal for sure. Some peopke on here may need a tire that can also work on the track this may be a cheap option until they sell out.
I know Eric has been going to a bunch of track days. I just trucked his vett down to VIR for the 4th weekend, and he was at watkins last thursday.
I don’t have a track-able car ATM.
Finally got around to do my final inspection my my car before track day. I replaced a seeping tailshaft seal and found that both valvecovergaskets are leaking again. This further proves my point that the only gaskets that seem to work on these cars are the oem ones, so i have to order a new set once again. I also finally removed my snow tires for the azenis 615k. 275 35 18 mounted on 18x10 alzor rims. I will add pics later. After making a batery mount yesterday so i didnt have wood blocks holing my batery dow i decided to scrap the whole plan and go with a lightweight batery. The a8 uses a beast of a batery so it will be nice to loose that weight. Biggest downside is the weight is all in the rear so the bias will go even further forward, but at the end of the day it is still weight reduction so i guess it is still a plus.
the entire track is repaved, and it is fantastic. They have not completed curbing yet so there is a little extra incentive to not leave track limits. I only had one asshole pucker moment coming into 4. I was chasing down a M3 that I had let by and he had a little bit too much for me. I came into 4 a bit fast and locked a left rear and came in with too much speed and got the rear end loose and i was nearly certain i was about to have a really bad day. Luckly only the RR left the track and the AWD was able to pull the car straight. I really thought I had 2 tires off the track but after reviewing the video it looks like only the RR left the track. Other than that I had 2 great days of racing. The weather was beautiful and the car had no issues at all. I only got 1 session out of my slicks which was a major bummer because i corded the RF. i just ran out of rubber. I knew it was getting low but I thought I would get at least 1 day of the worst one. The Azenis 615k held up great, They communicate a lot even when there is still a lot of grip left, but for what I paid i am not going to complain. On the second day i was running quite a bit deeper into the corners and i was getting some mild brake fade. there is another event coming up on 10/1/17 if you are interested.
Yeah when we finished sunday jayson and the instructers were trying it out backwards to see how the track flows. Running tracks in reverse is a bit of a mind fuck. Just when you think you know the track it is completely different backwards. Gingerman backwards was a blast years ago. I am uploading video now
