Neon 2.4 swap

Hell, it might even make more sense to buy a used head in good condition and put that on. Headwork can get expensive quickly…and neon parts are cheap.

Good call. That would certainly be easier than pulling the springs and swapping all new seals on. Its just a normal 2.0L SOHC head, right? These aren’t the magnum heads, are they? Any changes from the 1g style, besides sensors? I may be able to get one cheap. I think I picked one up for $50 last year, to replace that one that had bent valves.

Pretty sure the castings are the same for 1g and 2g (non-magnum) engines. Cheap cheap! Siqqq!

Its a job and a half, but I can do it in a day.

-drain coolant
-pull intake system off
-drain fuel rail
-pull the fuel rail and injectors
-pull the intake manifold
-undo the exhaust manifold at the donut gasket
-pull the crank pulley
-remove the timing belt cover
-remove the timing belt
-pop off the valve cover and remove the head bolts
-pull the head
-reverse

You can reuse head bolts forever, but I would not reuse any of the gaskets, since they are all crush gaskets. You can get away with reusing the donut exhaust gasket. I would replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and head gasket.

The SOHC is easy, because you can get to all of the head bolts without pulling the cams. In the DOHC, the cams cover up the head bolts, so you have to remove all the cam caps and its just more of a hassle.

Shit, fly me into B-lo for the day, Mark and I will have that head yanked and reinstalled before dinner.

how much would you charge to do the job? i have a 95 sohc with 100k original belt and gasket, i cant do it during school and during summer i have 3 jobs, this would svae me a lot of time =)

Non-magnum 2.0 SOHC, same as the 1g’s except different intake manifold I think.

Yeah, that’s basically all-in-all what I need, it just can’t wait till spring or summer because it’s my daily. Who wants to make some $$ plus beer in these times of limited cash flow?

I wonder if Slopoke still has that port and polished head with the 95 cam:
