I’ve got this transmission, I bought for my ACR a while ago, and after I installed it, it ground every gear if I put the clutch down and tried putting it in gear right away. If I waited 2-3 seconds, it wouldn’t grind at all. It could be synchro’s and/or clutch.
I want the transmission looked at by a professional, but I don’t know where to turn. The transmission is currently uninstalled, sitting on my garage floor.
Where can I take an uninstalled transmission to get it tested for problems?
A new clutch is the same price as finding another used transmission, but the transmission is much harder to find. I’d rather find out exactly what my problem is before I go out and buy something I don’t need.
its not totaly disengaging, so you have to give it a few seconds for the tranny internals to “spool down” … make sure your clutch line is bled of all air
my 240 does the exact same thing - because its been parked so long that theres rust on the flywheel thats still getting traction … in my case i just have to slip the clutch a few times to scrub it clean and it works perfect again
My clutch is cable driven. I thought maybe the cable was stretched so I replaced it. Still no luck. The neon has a “modular” clutch, which means the disk and pressureplate is all 1 unit. It is not serviceable. The whole assembly must be replaced. I can do that, $300 bucks later. I just want to know for sure, before I dump $300 into a part i dont need.
if you feel like swapping housings HRK has intense98rt’s old 3.94 tranny, but it needs a new housing seeing as to how the mount ripped right out of the tranny, but it is a good 3.94
swap over to the non modular setup, i got a flywheel, i know the clutch kits are much cheaper than the modular clutch’s
A friend of mine is having similiar problems but not as quite difficult… His 99 r/t transmission locks in third gear when it is warm. He had it sent out to a friend of his, but i dont know who or where. I will find out for you.
i had the same problem in my T/A when i blew my clutch but minealso made a squealing noise when i put it in gear and had the clutch in. so i just replaced it
Bring it to me 1011 Genesee St., Buffalo NY. Where at Genesee and Fillmore its a huge yellow building Continental Transmission. Ask for Jake me and we can take a look at it for yea.
idk…like 15-20$…intense98rt actually borrowed it when he got his crank machined and balanced, its been resurfaced already, but could prolly use a steel wool scrub since moisture has gotten to it…
but it came from my parts car, i dont need it cause my neon has a non modular setup…pick up that tranny from HRK and ill help ya swap casings…its a fuckin bitch though, but i can vouch for the tranny itself, i drove intense98rt’s neon plenty with that trannys before the housing took a shit, shifted fine, nice and smooth, i even had the bell housing off and everything looks nice and pretty inside
edit:: holy shit 3.94’s go for alot, i found em for no less than 200$…90$ aint bad from hrk
goo goo booger. that car rocks. i’d say give going to the non modular a try justin as down the road it looks like it may end up being alot less headaches.
^its much easier to work with, and they hurt less when they fall and hit your face, cause the flywheel is on the car :lol:, but it still doesnt help the “o shit… o shit…grab this” then the tranny comes flying towards your head :lol:
