New Chevy Volt & Cruze... Thoughts

Just got an email from GM today and I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts were on these two new cars. Has GM already missed the boat on Eco cars? It seems like GM is a day late and a dollar short on ever new car they come out with. Convertible Camaro? Volt gets about 40 miles per charge, I’m not sure how much is costs to charge it though GM claims $1.50 per day. If you drive a car that gets 30mpg 40 miles per day this would save you roughly $25 per week. If your car gets 20mpg you’ll save about $35 per week. In order for the car to pay for itself in gas savings you’d have to own it for about 18+ years.

2011 Chevrolet Volt for as low as http://img.delivery.net/cm50content/19625/28951/350.gif $2,500 due at lease signing.
Or purchase for as low as http://img.delivery.net/cm50content/19625/28951/33.gif Price after tax savings. Net price shown includes the full $7,500 tax credit. $41,000 MSRP3 with federal tax savings from $0 up to $7,500.

The Cruze… looks really nice to me, especially the interior. The 1.4L Turbo 4 also kind of tickles my fancy. No mention on if a 5 speed is available.

But they start at $17K?! Are you kidding me? This seems to be a Cobalt sized car. Mini Coopers start at $19.5K. A V6 Mustang can be had for about $22K. I don’t know how these things are going to sell.

Thoughts? GO

tbh… gm is wayyyy behind. nobody bjuys a car to pay off after 18years… and look at the new honda FCX, now that makes sense. pays off. and runs better than these shits…
and 100% works in cali…
volt wont be successful ever.
FCX will be the proper car to look towards future of low/zero emissions. unfortunately its not advertised enough.

FCX Clarity was only available via LEASE in Santa Cruz (or one of those towns) on a limited basis as a pilot program. It is only available there because that is the only place where hydrogen stations are available for re-fueling.

The cruize comes with a 6 speed manual in both n/a and turbo trims.

also yes they will start at 17k, and about 2 weeks later, GM will be discounting them about 4 grand. Because lets face it, I’ve worked for GM for 3 years, and I don’t think we’ve ever sold a car at full ticket price.

Now a 6 speed turbo for ~13K that gets 40mpg and can be chipped to have ~200hp would be sweet.

Was thinking about getting a cruze for a beater since I put 25K miles or so a yr on my cars. GM discount will drop it a touch.
Sky, Solstice and 05 vette, 06-07 Z06 and the 09ZR1 couldn’t be touched for under sticker for awhile when they came out. trust me

the FCX costs Honda hundreds of thousands of dollars a piece. It’s a demonstration piece, exactly like GM’s Project Driveway program. Apples and oranges comparison to a production Volt.
