so i park my car last nite, everything runs smooth as can be. i get up for class this morning, start up the car and there is this terrible noise coming from the engine(much quiter in the video). so i check the oil, right where it needs to be. i started it back up again, and the noise is still there. no CELs, oil pressure looks awesome. I dont get it. it sounds like its coming from the pulley side of the engine. late for class, i drive the car carefully to class when i notice that its running/driving fine aside from that noise. no loss of power or anything like that. so i go talk to this one guy i know at advance who is knowlegable of hondas and what not. i ask him to come out and take a look. at this point, the noise is quiter, but still present. the first thing he said was the crank pulley doesnt look to be running “true” so he revved it real quick and the pulley appeared to be running true and the then the noise stopped. he said, its probably not that pulley other wise when i rev it it should make the noise louder. maybe the way the engine was moving made it look like it was untrue. so he said maybe alternator bearings going bad. i’m not sure, wouldnt the volts be dropping if that was the case? i turned on the a/c to see if the noise would go away, no luck. and i no longer have p/s so thats not one of the problems. i’m really stuck on this one. i cant’ tell where the noise is coming from, or what could be causing it. in the vid you can kinda hear the general area where ithe noise is coming from, and you can hear it stop when i rev the engine, but it always comes right back. it seems to only do it at idle.
so heres the basic run down:
alternator is putting out 14.5 volts
oil pressure is right arond 75-80 psi at 3000 rpm, and arond 25-30 at idle
no CEL;s
no loss of power
no different driveability
just this new noise, and it pisses me off that i cant figure it out.
Help!
i tried to zoom in a bit on the crank pulley to show you what i mean when i say it doesnt look like its running “true” but kinda hard to see
