AutoWeek is reporting that Ford has officially confirmed the development of new RWD platforms for Ford and Lincoln based off of a global RWD platform developed by Ford of Australia. It’s been common knowledge for awhile (last year’s Interceptor and MKR concepts were big tip-offs), but now it’s official.
I love how this is true, yet it’s an American car company :smash2:
Makes no sense to me.
i get the inside scoop on ford vehicles, but Ford Australia and Ford Europe are basically different manufacters from the US.
Who wouldnt love a Falcon, Cosworth Escort, or the sweet AWD turbo Focus in Europe
Ah good info, never knew this.
I’d definitely rock the AWD boosted focus any day.
anyone remember the ATI Terminator Focus from a few years back? i think it had a longitudinally mounted 5.0, 6MT, LSD, RWD, etc… i think Sport Compact Car did an article on it… :whip: beastly
it was a kit. never stock.
cost about $10K for the motor, drivetrain, and suspensioin
i know that. just mentioning the novelty of RWD.
but then think about the cage and major suspension upgrades you’d need to keep that chasis stiff
what good project isn’t worth major work? besides, a 5 Liter Cammer would be too good to pass up as a project. i’m surprised they haven’t gotten more publicity…
better off buying a foxbody and throwing money at it
no doubt there, but it’s all about the fact that you’d have a RWD V8 focus. people are always going to try to do crazy shit just for the hell of it.
anyways, back to the RWD Ford thread. i’m glad Ford is deciding to shift some attention back to this segment. it’s been too long since cars like that were around. i learned to drive on a Panther platform, i own an MN-12, and my mom recently sold said Panther only because it was wrecked, only to buy an '02 Lincoln LS. needless to say, RWD Fords are in the family.
The Interceptor body is an ugly mass though… that seems to be what they are pushing for the RWD concept.
It is true that even American car companies crap on us for the awesome cars. I had a Ford Escort GT and all I could think of is that it wasn’t a Cosworth… The Euro Focus is so much more awesome as well.
It’s sad that Saturn is the company bringing some Euro styling to the US. dreams about the Saturn Sky It’s fun the number of people I have talked to about the sky that were trying to push it that had no idea that it was based on a Opel. They could spew any other bit of random information.
